The Wrap Up Video. In this course, we addressed a lot of topics associated with the Fedora 11 distribution. The curriculum for this course is associated with the community distribution released by Red Hat which serves as a test bed for the future release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6. Code name When You Need Us, Fedora 11 was released on June 9, 2009. The focus of this course has been on the Fedora Desktop and the default Desktop environment for Fedora is known as GNOME. I've shown you how it says fully-featured as the latest versions of Microsoft Windows and even the Macintosh OS 6 operating systems. Since this course is focused on the Desktop, coverage of Command Line tools has been kept to a minimum. However, some knowledge of the Command Line is useful and if you want to learn more about Fedora and Linux, especially its use as a server, look for some of the other VTC courses on Linux servers, which explains more about the Command Line interface. In this course, we've covered how you can get and how you can install Fedora 11 along with major new features. I've given you a high-level view of the graphical Desktop environment and how it can be customized. I've shown you the tools you need to get online, including browsers, e-mail managers, instant messaging clients, FTP tools and more. If you need Microsoft applications, I've shown you how many of them can be installed using the WINE group of packages. I've discussed basic Desktop surfaces, such as printing as well as security issues. I've shown you how you can get more software for Fedora 11 including a variety of available multimedia applications. I've provided a brief look at the OpenOffice.org Suite as well as games, photo management software and how you can set up a personal website. Finally, I've discussed basic administrative and troubleshooting tools as far as the tools needed by Linux Desktop users. There are only about eight hours of movies or videos associated with this course. If you want a more in-depth discussion of the Fedora operating system, consider the VTC courses on Red Hat Certification, specifically those associated with the Red Hat Certified Technician and Red Hat Certified Engineer exams. These hands-on certifications are highly respected in the IT industry as they demonstrate real-world skills. Thank you and good luck!
