Consolidate Selection. Something you may consider doing when you're done with your Session, even for your own self, or if you're handing it off to somebody else, is consolidating all your Regions into one Region each, so I can do that by selecting each of my Regions and then going to my Edit Window and consolidating these, so Option-Shift-3 is the Key Command for that, or Alt-Shift-3, and this is going to use the Gain Plug-in, so if you don't have the Gain Plug-in installed then that will not Consolidate. Some people may be appalled by this idea to consolidate all of these into new Regions, especially if you went through and you edited everything; if you've got Fades and all the different Edits that you've done, now your Fades are committed, everything is part of this new file. This doesn't actually add any of your Automation that you've done, so if you've got Automation on Plug-ins, those things are not going to be part of this unless you've done an AudioSuite to it. So the nice thing about doing this is, is that you've made a commitment, you said you know what, I like the Fades, I like what I've done, if you've done Fades, and I want to commit this, so now I have brand new Regions that I'm going to hand off to somebody else. All this dead space is now a larger space on your Hard Drive, so these are some things that you may not want to do this for because you're now going to have a larger file as a result. So, when you Consolidated in your Region and you brought everything down as small as it could be by compacting it, then this now just kind of made it a little bit larger. So the advantage really here as well is if we want to bring this into another DAW I don't need to worry about Broadcast Wave, and where was it originally at, and all that Time Stamping; I can just look at the actual Region Name and know what that is. So I can bring this into any DAW, I know what files I've done and this is a practice that I like to do for most of my Sessions where I like to commit these and say, you know, I've worked on this for a while. I don't want to have to think about this again when I come back to it, all my Playlists and everything else that's involved, so I'm committing this. The Consolidate Selection uses a Plug-in, as I mentioned, the Gain Plug-in, kind of similar to when we have our Timeline and Edit Unlinked, and I were to make a selection like this and I wanted to Consolidate that Selection to fit in my Edit Selection, so I just did an Option-Shift-U and now I'm bringing this Edit Selection into my Timeline Selection. You can do a similar thing, and that's our Time Compression Expansion Plug-in, by holding down Command-Option and bringing out a Region. If it doesn't fit, if it's too long it will tell you: too long or too short to be able to compress this, but it now took whatever that Region was of that file and consolidated it into that location. So, just make sure that you've got that Plug-in installed. Definitely can make things nice. Another thing that you want to keep in mind is when you're actually doing this and consolidating that you've got good names for your Regions in the first place, so that's what they're going to be on the Hard Drive. So, make sure that they are one and the same and you can hand this off to somebody else, and now I can go through and say: I want to get rid of all my unused Playlists as well as all of my unused Audio files, I'm going to hit the Clear Key and then I can Option-Delete and remove anything that I don't need. So, I think it's definitely a good idea but use at your discretion knowing what's involved in doing that.
