Welcome / New in Pro Tools 8
Subtitles of the Movie
What's New in Pro Tools 8. Let's discuss that. There are many new features in Pro Tools 8. The biggest and most obvious one is the Interface change, so Pro Tools now looks much darker than its previous versions, and the colors can be changed a little bit more easily and obviously in the new Pro Tools 8. So, we'll be discussing what's new throughout this tutorial. in several of the movies and I will be discussing what's different on HD systems as well as LE systems. We're going to be covering most of the Tutorial on an HD system so you can see features that are on HD systems that won't be found on LE systems, so hopefully that gives you an idea of what you are missing, or what's not an option to you. So, let's see some of our new features. Pro Tools automatically checks for updates when we go and launch Pro Tools and you can turn that Preference off so it automatically looks to the Web if you're connected and checks if there's a newer version. We have lower Hardware Buffer settings; we'll discuss that when we get to our Hardware Buffer, but we can now record with less delay as we're tracking. MIDI Offsets allows us to adjust our individual Midian. I'm not going to go through and read each of these, but you can get a quick overview of some of the new things so we have better views of our Waveforms when we're editing. A Universe Window is a welcome new feature that we have on HD integrated now into LE. We can reorganize our Toolbars Ð can be a good thing or a bad thing. Since we now has customizable Changing Interface we can change our focus now that we have new MIDI Editors so we can open up a Score Window as well as a MIDI Edit Window and we can have our Toolbars be independent, so no longer just our Mix and our Edit Window as our two main windows, we have other windows that we can work in to do our editing. We have Key Commands now to Record, Arm, and to be able to put our Tracks into Input, Solo, and Mute, based on what our selections are. Elastic Pitch allows us to change our pitch of our audio Ð we'll be discussing that as well. We have 10 Inserts now. In Pro Tools 7 we've got 10 Sends, now we have 5 new Inserts for a total of 10. We can do New Loop Recording, so now we get new play lists and we can edit Loop Record much easier and we have Region Rating to be able to give it what is the best Region and what was the best Take. As a result of the Transfuser Plug-in that was in Pro Tools 7 that you needed to purchase. They took several of those Plug-ins and applied them to be able to use on other track. Plug-in Mapping for Icon, we're not going to be discussing the Icon throughout this course. We will discuss a little bit in just setting it up, but we won't be discussing working with Synchronization or the Icon or Work Surfaces in much detail, but we do have some new features with that that we can be using. Satellite Options we're not going to be discussing much either, but this allows you to run multiple systems together and run them in sync, so a nice, new option. You have to pay for those options and new features to be able to offline some of your processing or offload them to another computer. So, we have High Track Counts, one of the more obvious things as well that is appealing to people, so now on LE systems we have up to 48 tracks as opposed to the 32 tracks, and if you have the Production Toolkits, other Toolkits that you pay for, the DV Toolkit 2, then those now increase your Track Count up to 64. If you paid for the complete Production Toolkit you can have up to 128 simultaneous mono tracks that are playing back. You'll need more hard drive space for that compatibility. New Instrument Plug-ins Ð Pro Tools has now stepped up in the instruments that they offer for free and out of the box that you can play in Pro Tools. So, Xpand we had before, now we have a new consolidated version, much easier to work with and get around in the Interface. Structure, Vacuum, Mini Grand Ð these are some nice, new virtual instruments that we can use with MIDI keyboards, and then some of our New Effects Plug-ins. Again, most of these coming from Transfuser. So, that gives you a quick overview and an idea of what is new in Pro Tools 8. I do suggest downloading the Manual, the PDF Manual of what's new in Pro Tools 8 for more detail, especially if you've come from earlier versions of Pro Tools.
