Welcome / Course Outline

Subtitles of the Movie

Course Outline. Let's discuss what we'll be covering in Pro Tools 8 Course. There are a lot of features in Pro Tools and there's no way in the amount of time that we have to go into detail into everything that Pro Tools has to offer. There are so many things that I wanted to cover that I just had to leave out, so some things that we will be covering you can see here by the Outline. We go into a lot of detail about several things, about Editing. By the end of this Course you should be comfortable with Editing, moving around in Pro Tools, and doing most of your Tracking, Editing, and Mixing functions. So, just from looking at what we've got here you can get a pretty good idea of what we're going to cover and get into. So throughout this course I will be discussing the new features that are found in Pro Tools and most of the time I will also give the Windows key commands even though I'm using a Macintosh on this system. So, when I use a command such as Command, or the Apple key on a Macintosh system, know that that's always going to map out to our Control key 99 percent of the time. Our Alt or Option key is going to map out to our Alt key on our Windows, and then our Control key is going to map out to our Windows key. Shift is exactly the same. So, any time you hear a key command such as Command-Shift-N, that's going to be Control-Shift-N on the Windows system; or, Option-Shift-3, that would be Alt-Shift-3 on a Windows system, so, I believe that gives you an idea of the mapping. Most of them are cross-compatible. So, here is our Outline for our Course. Let's take a look at some websites here. I want to give thanks to John Turrell and Jonathan Van Nest for giving the files for this session so you can work with these sessions. So the Work Files that are provided were by John Turrell and Jonathan Van Nest. You can see their website at Sound Element Studios. If you want to have more information about Pro Tools beyond this Course I would highly recommend going through the Digidesign Training Program, and this is quite in-depth, so there's about 30 days worth of training at 7 to 8 hours a piece, plus Certification at the end where you're actually going through a full-day test, both post-production as well as the music side of things. So, here is the Course Outline that you can see. There is also a new elements with Pro Tools 8 where you can get training for a One-Day Course on their Control Surfaces and Work Surfaces, so the D-Command, the D-Control, the Pro-Control, the Control-24. So, if you want to find more about that go to Digidesign's website and you can see several of the schools that offer training at various levels. So, two of the schools that I train at, one of them is Shenandoah University, and the other is Digital Poets. So, you can check out both of those. So, as far as what you get out of doing these training courses, the training courses allow you to be listed on Digidesign's website as a Certified User, so you can go to Digidesign's website and find all of the Certified Users to have an idea of who's actually gone through in-depth and what they've done with Pro Tools. So, this should get you up and running on a Pro Tools system. If you want much more detail, then I do suggest going through those courses, but this should give you a good idea of a lot of the stuff that you're actually covering in those courses without all of the material. So, let's talk about what's new in Pro Tools 8 in the next movie.
