New Session / Save As
Subtitles of the Movie
Save As. So, I've been working on a Session for a while. I've got several Audio Tracks recorded, I've got Edits made, Fades made, Cuts, and so forth, automation happening, and as I start working and doing all these things, as I work through my files and do all these various edits, I may actually want to save this. And keep in mind when we're working with digital audio workstations, for the most part when we do a Save As we're just saving the brains of the file, which is, in our case, the PTS, or PTF file that's saved in our Folder. So, I'm going to go ahead and Save As on this, and this is going to save a reference to all these Audio files, and not the Audio Files themselves. So, let's say 03. So, now I have a place to go back to if I wanted to that didn't have all these edits. So, if I were to close this Session, so, File, then Close Session, and by doing that I don't have to go and reopen up Pro Tools and wait for that whole dialog to open again. I'm going to open up Session 02 and you can see I hadn't saved anything this whole time and all of my Audio is still in my Audio Files Folder, but I'm back to the beginning where I started when I last saved. So, it's important to continually save and this is where the Session File Backups can really help you. So if I go back into my Session and I open up my Folder you can see that all my Audio files are still there, but they're not referenced in this particular Session because I hadn't saved yet. So, if I open up this New Session Ð Yes, go ahead. You're not going to find that because I deleted it. I could choose to save or not to save. I haven't done anything. And it's going to still try to find those files that were offline because they're still referenced here but all my Edits and new things that I'd done had been saved. So that's the difference between just starting out Saving our Session and choosing Save As, because it's really just saving the brains of the file. There is a way to actually go in and save everything again, and we'll discuss this in another movie, but I could choose to do a Save, Copy, and then drag all of these Audio files, if they're referenced, all over the drive into one Folder. This is also where you can see we would choose to Save as a Template, and we could choose what Folder, or Category for something that we've actually used or will use in the future quite often. So, a nice, new feature of Pro Tools 8.
