New Session / Session Templates
Subtitles of the Movie
Starting Pro Tools. So, let's go down to our Doc on a Mac or in the Start Menu on Windows, you'll find Pro Tools after it's been installed. Usually it defaults to Start on the right. I'm going to go and open up Pro Tools, so I've placed it on the left on my Mac on the Doc. You can also find this in Applications if you accidentally remove it on a Mac. So, as we're opening this up, we're going through all these different Plug-ins, and that's what this window is indicating, this is essentially all the Plug-ins that you've got installed on your Plug-ins Folder. It's going to go and load these in so they're actually available to you. This can take some time, especially if you've got several times like a Wave Spondole, or other packages where you've got several Plug-ins that are installed in your Plug-ins Folder because it will go through and actually check against an I-lock and authorize, make sure these are OK to use. So, as soon as this is done going through all its Plug-ins and verifying everything I'll get this Start Up dialog, and this Start Up dialog is brand new to Pro Tools 8, which is pretty nice. It gives us Templates that they've made as well as Templates that we can make ourselves. So, Open Recent; these are different sessions that I've done recently. And Create Session from Template Ð these are Templates that are categorized by Folders. You can make your own Categories as well and your own Template. These are a lot easier than the previous way where we had to actually lock Pro Tools Sessions through the Interface, so we'd have to do that on a Windows system or a Mac system by going into the files. On a Mac we'd have to lock them, on the Windows we had to make them Read-only, so this negates that, so we don't have to go through that and we can actually see a nice Template of everything from our start. We don't have to have this dialog pop up if we don't like this behavior. We can turn this off or on in our Preferences. I'm going to go ahead and start from a Blank Session and choose Broadcast Wave 24-bit, and I'm going chose 44.1 in this case, so I'm using the double-o 2, which can go up to 96K, and I'll choose OK. So, if I want to change this, if I go up into my Setup and down to Preferences then I can go into Operation and I see Show QuickStart!! dialog when Pro Tools starts, so if I like that then I can choose to have that pop up each time I start Pro Tools.
