Navigating / View Menu

Subtitles of the Movie

Let's go over some of our Settings in our View Menu, hopefully not to bore you, let me shrink these down, so I want to get rid of all those, I held down the Option key and that got rid of all those Floating Windows. I can also, if I had several Floating Windows open like that I can also hold down all three modifiers and W, so, if I had several different things cluttering up my screen, that could be Plug-ins or these Floating Windows, and get rid of them by doing that, so all three modifiers: Control-Option-Command and W. You can see the Window that that popped up from, that's a toggle, so that's how I got rid of those, so I hide all my Floating Windows. So, in our View Menu what we can do is change some of the way things overlap with each other for some of our Regions, so since a lot of these things are redundant from what we've already gone over let me do the same thing right here. I want to go to my Edit Window and make this minimal. I'm not going to go back into some of those same exact settings. So, in our Rulers, we've seen that already. O Displays, this allows us to be able to basically do the same thing that we did by clicking with these little arrows. The nice thing, though, by having these in the Menus like this with the other displays is I could actually assign these to a Key Command, so I don't want this to just be boring, something that you can see on your own going through here; something you might not have been aware of on the Mac system at least, you can go in on your keyboard and mouse and assign these to Keyboard Shortcuts, so if you're constantly opening up your Regions Band then you can go in and assign it to the exact same name that we had under our View, so that's the advantage of having this in a Menu. So, my Regions List, I want to be able to see that. Let me make this the size, same again as clicking on that, but I don't want to click on that. So I want to make sure I know exactly what the name is of that, so on other displays it says Regions List, and I'm going to go back in my Preferences and hit Plus I'm just going to say to All Applications is fine, and Regions List, and I'm going to assign this to a Key Command, Control-Option-Command-L and then Add. So now when I come back into this in my View and I go down to my Regions, Other Displays, you can see Regions List is assigned Command-Option-L and this allows me to toggle that state by doing that Key Command. Kind of nice, so let me go back and assign this to something else. I'll say Command-Option-L, and then now I've got those toggling. So, it's nice that it also shows you what the Key Command is there, under our settings of Other Displays. Let's go down to our Regions and with the Regions this just allows us to see what's in our actual Regions, so, for the names, so I'll zoom out, you can see this in the Region itself. So, that's all that's indicating. And this can get quite cluttered if you start adding too many things, and we've got several different settings. Rating is new to Pro Tools 8 where I can actually assign to these individual ratings. That's really useful, especially with our new Loops that we have to automatically create new Playlists and to assign Ratings, that way that we can jump back to. So, under our Regions I can have multiple Time Stamps. Usually you'll just have one unless you automatically assign a user Time Stamp, so that's not going to be any different than your original Time Stamp, and you can do that by going to the Regions Bin. Our Automation, some of these settings are only found in Pro Tools HD systems, so working with our Trim Playlist, if I want to be able to see how that works this is also based on our Preferences of how these actually combine together, so you know, we'll show you this for those of you that may work on HD Rigs or get some settings with those. I'm going to go down to my Volume and I want to be able to show Trim Automation, so, under my View if I wanted to have this combined I'm going to go ahead and create some Automation, I'll do some Offline Automation here, and I want to do some sort of Offset to that, so with my Trim Automation I can actually change a different setting based on what my previous Automation was, so all this View does is allows me to see the different between that. So, if I don't want to see my Trim Automation I can go ahead and turn off, actually, displaying that Trim Automation. So, let me go ahead and put that back on, you can see my Trim. This blue line is the other option that's here under Automation, is I want to actually be able to see what is the actual result of both my Automation for Volume and my Trim from Bind, so that may be a little bit confusing. Really get into the Automation to understand how that works, but that's basically the sum Output. Sends, so what do I want to see, this was the same thing I did when I was showing you the Mix Window by actually Command-clicking on the Inserts, what Sends do I want to see. And then going down to my Track number. I find this one particularly helpful especially when you're using External Control Surface you want to be able to see what the number is and how that always sticks with the actual Tracks that they're assigned, so if I reorganize my Tracks I can see that the numbers actually reorganize as well. If I Hide Tracks there is a preference to be able to have the Hidden Tracks; the numbers stay with the Hidden Tracks in your Preferences, usually you probably would not have them Hide when things disappear or Tracks disappear, so Track Position Numbers stay with Hidden Tracks is that option. Moving on, our Transport Control is just our various settings that we can see with the Transport, so if I want to Expand or Hide that we've seen that in another movie. Our Main Counter, what do we actually want to see, so I can do the same thing by just clicking on my Main Counter. And then this last one here is Plug-in, and this is really dealing with our HD systems when we're dealing with Icons. This is new also to Pro Tools 8, and this allows me to be able to have new Plug-in Controls and have them map out to my actual Control Surface, so if I've got Inserts on Ð let me go ahead and pull up a Plug-in Ð and I've got a Plug-in open we'll see a new Map Control. And the reason for this is because on our Control Surface we'd get between different manufacturers different settings, so I may have a queue control be mapped to the wrong knob on the icon. Now with our Mapping we can actually have these between various Plug-ins and automatically map them and we'll see a new little pop-up that will show when the HD system is recognizing an Icon.
