Navigating. In this movie let's discuss moving around in the Pro Tools Interface. There's no way in this movie that we can actually discuss all our Parameters, but just a quick overview of what we're actually seeing. So, we have two main windows in Pro Tools, and they are the Edit Window and the Mix Window. So, here are our two windows. Mix Window looks like a traditional Mixer, and our Edit Window is where we'd go in and start editing Waveforms, be able to control the Track Properties, Solo, Mute, if I want to hear individual Parameters on Tracks, if I wanted to Record on Tracks, Audio Tracks, Master Tracks. So this is really where we'd get into be able to edit and trim our Audio and make things sound the way that we'd want them to be. Up at the top we have our Controls. We can actually move these around in Pro Tools now, part of Pro Tools 8 features. On the left we have our Track View, so what we actually want to see, that little., to be able to choose what we're going to see. We can also go in and say I want to see only Master Tracks, and then choose to show Others. I can create Groups if I actually want to have Tracks grouped together when I move Faders, if they Move Together, whether they're Solo, whether I Edit Ð all of those things can be grouped together if I wanted to. If I go into the Mix Window I may want to have certain things altogether as well. I'm going to go to Tracks and show everything, so Show All Tracks. I can have certain things move together if I chose to group them. So, the Mix Window, I would say, is probably more useful to be able to see things at a glance and what's routed, so if I've got Sends, I'm going out to head phones, I've got a bunch of Plug-ins that are happening for Distortion, or whatever effects that you're particularly using. It allows you to see this pretty easily since more actually fits on the screen, whereas if I'm Editing like the name implies the Edit Window allows us to go in and edit up our Audio and trim things out and actually get the sound a little bit cleaned up. If I've got a bunch of dead space I can remove those things, so only what I'm using in the Session is seen and heard. That's more of what the Edit Window is. And then at the top here, our various Rulers, our Timelines, being able to change Key Signatures and Tempos, as well as Time Signatures. Keep in mind that there are Expansion Options you can get Ð the DV Toolkit if you want to have some Time Code, so if you ever see anything that's not the same on your system you can usually upgrade these things to have those features with a Toolkit. So, there are a few things on HD systems that are not upgradable, but for the most part, most things are available that you can upgrade as far as what you see for Edit Windows settings.
