Side Chaining Compressor. OK, let's move on and let's see Side Chaining with the Compressor. This is otherwise known as Ducking, and what I've set up from my Routing here is, I've assigned everything to go out Output 3 and 4 here, and let me just get rid of this Track so we're not confusing matters here. So we'll delete this Ð we could leave it on but we'll delete it just so we can follow where we're at. So, everything's being Bussed to 3 and 4 and I've got that routed to an Auxiliary Channel, so it's passing audio through Inputs 3 and 4 going out to Fireface where we're hearing this, and then on this Auxiliary I've got my Compressor, so that red just indicates that it Clipped indicating that so I know, and when I pass my audio through this Channel, since I've got a compressor coming in, I've got a Bus routed and this Bus is actually being triggered by the Vocals, so our Vocals, when they sing here, it's actually going to turn down the rest of the music, so this is often how you get DJs turning down the volume, they don't need to adjust the volume when they speak. It's automatically turned down or ducked when you speak. So this is sending out Bus 1, this is my Input into my Tracks that is everything else. Notice on this Vocal Track it's going straight out to the Fireface, everything's on 3 and 4, so that's passing on out so it'll be unaffected, and everything else will be ducked based on the trigger here. Again, it's important that you have the Side Chain on so that it's actually receiving the key, and let's hear the effect of this. So, I'll move a little forward in the song. And let's hear what happens when we get to the silence here. So you can hear how it instantly turned down. I've got it extremely high, so you can see my ratio here. So normally you wouldn't turn down that much. I'm doing extreme examples here, and that's the effect of Ducking. This can be kind of a cool effect if you use it with Drums and sometimes the pumping effect that you hear with the Snare is, as the Snare can turn down the rest of the Drums so you're really hearing the crack of the Snare, so some cool things that you can do with that through Ducking, but that's the effect of Ducking and again, you need to make sure that Side Chain's on, so the Vocals is what's triggering the controls of the Compressor, but yet it's affecting everything else of the Mix because that's what's actually passing through the Compressor, so everything else, the entire Mix, except the Vocals, is all passing through this Auxiliary and then coming down into the key that's being triggered by the Vocals. Hopefully that's clear, and makes sense how to use Ducking on the key input.
