Inserts. So, let's go up to, again, Setup, choose IO and move on over to our Inserts, and with our Inserts what this allows us to do is to be able to go one for one from an Output into an Input, so keep in mind in Pro Tools that it has to go out the same Output as the Input that you come back from. And the reason why you'd want to do this is if you're going to Outboard gear where you wanted to actually use some external compressor that you had, or some other device that you're using externally, whether it be a reverb unit or some other source, so, typically Dynamic Processors are going to use as Inserts. So I can take my Inputs from 3 and 4 if I wanted to since I'm currently using Outputs 1 and 2 to listen to and it's going to Send Out 3 and 4 and then come back In 3 and 4, so there's no configuring that any different. So if you've got a stereo Track then you're going to use a Stereo Insert, and Mono Track you're going to use a Mono Insert and come back 1 for 1. So, let me create both of those. So, I'll create a Stereo Audio Track as well, so if I go to my Inserts in Pro Tools 8 we have 10 Inserts that we can use now and you can see all the 16 Inserts that I set up in my IO. So, if I go and select something like 3, that's going to set that up to go out Output 3, and then back in Input 3. Let's go to our Stereo Track and see what we have as options there. I come down to IO you can see it's in groups of Stereo Outputs, so it's going to take my Left and Right Signal and send them out in Stereo Pairs. So, 5 and 6 is an option. Again, just corresponding to what our IO is you can see in our Inserts that's what our Setup is. I'm going to choose Delete Path: Are you sure you want to do this? I've got something set up. Choose Default and then I'm going to get the SPDIF as well, so there's my ADAT and the SPDIF. So, in my case it really pertains to whatever the Hardware is as far as the 18 or the 16 that I'm going to get. So if I'm going up to higher Sample Rates on a double02 or double03 then I'm not going to get my ADAT anymore, so I have to be at a Sample Rate of 44.1 or 48 to be able to get those 8 Channels as ADAT. So, there are a lot of different boxes out there that allow you to convert and go back and forth through the ADAT. Just keep in mind that you will incur latency as a result, especially on LE systems since you don't have the latency compensation for the round trip.
