Page Consistency in ASP.NET 4 is something you need to understand but it's been around awhile so you probably got your head around it. Now if you haven't been around for awhile you probably want to pay close attention to this movie and maybe the next 2 or 3. Because we're going to talk about Page Consistency in ASP.NET 4. Now the most important aspect of a website to a developer is that you have clean, concise code. That you have great effects that all the other developers come over to your cubicle or your desk, your office, whatever and just ohhh and ahh and they want to know how you got that to happen and how did you code that and where did you figure that out and what neat tricks you know. That's what really revs developers up, your astonishing data handling. Now how did you make that data do that? Boy did you cache that, that's quick, how did you, all that stuff. To the end-users though notice what's important about a website. First of all that it's fast and the usability. Is it easy to move around? Is it coherent? Is it intuitive? And notice the difference here. Developers tend to nerd out and geek out end-users just want it to be fast and easy to use. So we're going to use the aspects of Page Consistency to solve all these concerns. For the developers using the Page Consistency Aspects of ASP.NET 4 ensures that our pages can be designed as complex as we want them doing all the cool magic tricks that we want, but they can also be easily tweaked and changed. Because without a doubt when you deliver them the users will say, oh wait a minute I didn't know you could that, well since you can do that this is what we really need here and you can go change them. Effects can be employed without page by page surprises and modifications and if you're jQuery to fade stuff in or slide something in or twirl something or change a color, it's going to behave the same on every page because all your pages are consistent. If your data presentation and management from page to page is consistent that's just going to lend itself to a great technically designed and implemented web application. Now for the end-users the Page Consistency Tools in ASP.NET and Functionalities, give you a well designed, very consistent page that can be optimized for speed. Now, consistency out there in the usability world, the more consistent the pages are the higher they rank with users as far as user friendliness or usability. So keep that in mind. Anytime a end-user goes to a page that looks or feels different from the previous page, they get all, it's like a deer in headlights. They get all confused, they don't know their name, they don't know where they live, they just you know, all kind of weird stuff starts happening to them. All these surveys and usability tests out there consistently show that especially if you're an E-Commerce Site, if you take people through a set of pages and suddenly show them a total different look when it's time to check out, most of them don't complete the transaction. Be very careful with this stuff. Now ASP.NET 4 Page Consistency it's based on 3 basic functionalities. The first one is the concept of Master Pages, we'll talk about that and play with them in just a few minutes in some separate videos. Then there's Themes and we're going to talk about Themes and then there's Skins. So Master Pages, Themes and Skins are what we're going to use to not only provide consistency, but as an added bonus, right, you can also adjust the look and feel of your web pages, very easy, very quickly and still maintain that consistency with that new look. So with that let's jump into ASP.NET 4 Page Consistency in the next few videos.
