As you're going through the movies I want you to be aware of the fact that I have included the Work Files for you. What you'll want to keep in mind, that in many instances, I'll be encouraging you to actually create the files from scratch, rather than opening a pre-designed report. However there are certain instances, where it'll be easier to have some data on the screen so you can concentrate on the activity, rather than the building of the report. So let's go through the Work Files. I have included two databases, Extreme and Northwind. These are both sample databases. Northwind is the sample from Microsoft, and Extreme is a sample from Crystal. I've also included what is called Adventure Works Schematic. We will be looking at the layout of a database and be discussing how important relationships are. In order to do this, I wanted to give you a good design of a database. The Adventure Works suits that purpose well. You'll want to just go into the compressed file, and it will extract itself, and then you'll be able to see exactly what I'm doing on the screen. Now if you prefer, you do not need to load Adventure Works. It's there for your preference. If you'd like to just watch the movie, or if you'd like to go ahead and load it. Now when it gets into the individual exercises, I have some reports that are named for the exercise, and some are more generic because they're used in multiple movies. For instance, you can see that the alert, groups and charts, and even our formulas are going to correlate to those sections. However, when it comes to product category, or inventory, it's not so easy to see. I will be telling you which report I'm using, but again remember, many times, I'll want you to create the report from scratch. I've also given you some examples, for instance, when we talk about formulas, there's a Word document. That Word document will give you some of the functions that we're talking about in the movie. The same thing holds true for our charts and our map definitions. There is a file that goes through the information. I have tried to make sure that you have a good variety of files that you can work from. Remember everything I'm doing comes from Northwind and Extreme. You can follow along with every one of these exercises. I encourage you to do so, before you work in your own database. It's always best to follow a lab, exactly as you learn it, and then apply it afterwards.
