Even though Painter can create vector artwork sometimes its more comfortable to use a package or an application that's geared more towards creating that kind of artwork and then you can bring it into Painter to further adjust it. So right now I'm in Adobe Illustrator and I am going to grab my pencil and quickly draw out a little cartoon fish and its just the best artwork probably in the history of mankind since my kindergarten days. So here's my fish, and that's just great. What I can do is now go to my file menu and choose save as, and on my desktop I am going to save this as fish, kind of, cause its not really a fish and I'm gonna just make sure that the format is Adobe Illustrator document. I'll click save and then here's the tricky part, what I want to make sure is that the document will work with Painter. So I normally choose from the list Illustrator 3 because all I really want to do is bring in the lines or vectors. So I'm gonna go ahead and click OK, and it's gonna give me a little warning that tells me hey man this is gonna be an older format are you sure you want to do this. Yes, I know what I'm doing thank you. And now that I've done that I'm going to return to Painter, I'm gonna choose the file menu, and I'm going to choose acquire, Adobe Illustrator file. And then on my desktop we see that I have the fish kind of file and I'm going to click open and there it is. This is the file that I was just, that I just created in illustrator and I can go ahead of course and grab my tools here, the same kind of tool you see in illustrator. And when I click on the actual outline the points are available, and I can adjust them. I can use the biases handles and I can fix this fish, and whatever I want to do. So I can fix it, and then work with it as if though I had created this file with the pen tool, right inside of Painter. So as you see not only can you export vector artwork from Painter into illustrator you can also go the opposite direction and work first in illustrator and then save the file into a format that Painter can then understand.
