Introduction / System Requirements

Subtitles of the Movie

Let's go ahead and discuss the system requirements to use Painter 9. Now Painter like Photoshop uses pixels to create images and although Painter also uses vectors the pixels take a lot of processing power because don't forget Painter is pretty much mimicking real world techniques, real world brushes and putting it in a digital form. So lets go ahead and talk about the Macintosh and the Windows PC system requirements starting off with Macintosh. OK you Mac guys we need to have a Macintosh OS which has the version 10.28 or later, so once again 10.2.8 or later Macintosh OS10. You need to have at least a G3 with a 500 megahertz processor; of course a faster computer is what I would recommend. You need to have a minimum of at least 128 megabytes of RAM and of course more is good there as well. Don't forget you're talking about moving pixels around the screen so it needs time and any space to think about where those pixels are being pushed and where those brushes are touching the canvas and how realistically they're mimicking real brushes. Take a lot of brain power so 128 megabytes of RAM may be sufficient but for better performance I recommend going all the way out to like 500 or more because you know it doesn't cost much for RAM these days so if you can afford more RAM definitely grab some of that. I recommend using a Wacom tablet and I'm going to talk about how to use one of those a little later on but you can use a regular mouse as well to paint with. You need to have 1024 by 768 or greater resolution monitor with a 24 bit color display. You should have a CD ROM Drive of course to install Painter because it does come on a CD and you should have at least 395 megabytes available free on your hard drive. These days' hard drives are like in the gigabytes so if you have a newer computer you should have absolutely no problem at all. For Windows users you need to have Windows 2000 or Windows XP with the latest service packs. So make sure you have the latest packs, if Painter is not installing or working properly. You should have a Pentium two with a 500 megahertz or greater processor. You to should have a minimum of 128 megabytes of RAM but more is better. You can also use a Wacom tablet or a mouse and need to have the same display 1024 by 768 or greater and you need to have a CD ROM of course to install it and on your hard drives 380 megabytes of available hard drive space. So these are the system requirements you'll need to install and operator Painter on your computer.
