Is Painter a replacement for Photoshop or vice versa? The answer is no. Photoshop is an image editing application although you kind find people who can paint very realistically in Photoshop because they've used the application for a long time and Photoshop has brushes that you can configure. But for the most part if I create a mark in Photoshop and I go to my brushes I can play around with the shapes and sizes of those brushes and create different effects just grass and stars and I can even make my own brushes but I don't get that feeling that I get from Painter. So let's go ahead and hide Photoshop real fast and go to Painter. Now if I create a mark with a Painter brush, let me go ahead and change the color here and I'll also increase the size, I get a mark that looks more realistic like I'm really painting and this is a water color brush here as you see here. Watercolor and I'm using a wash. The brushes in Painter mimic real world brushes very realistically, that's what the application does best. I mean if you really want to paint in Photoshop that's fine but you're gonna have to spend some time customizing the brushes to match the style that you're going for, from oil to watercolor to crayon or whatever. They're all included right here in Painter. Now all you have to do is choose what you want, a felt pen for example, and choose the type, the variant rather. So you can get started with your paintings right away. In Painter you have a color wheel that look like the color wheels real painters use. I have a color wheel that's very similar to this so I can help so it helps me mix and match my colors. I have a canvas, I have watercolors that I can actually dry so it's, it's a very cool program that will get you started right away as far as choosing papers such as small dots, new streaks, wood grain and choosing all kinds of brushes and types of those brushes. So if you really want to get going and create a painterly style right away with out having to worry about setting up too many brush parameters and Corel Painter is the application for you. If you are very comfortable creating your own custom brushes in Photoshop and you know exactly what you need to do or you wanna experiment and try to mimic oils or watercolors in Photoshop then by all means that application is quite capable of creating paintings. So that's pretty much the difference between Photoshop and Painter. And Painter is an application that's going to be more specialized as well. It's less expensive then Photoshop and if you have a digital tablet like Wacom tablet and a stylus you'll be able to start right away creating great paintings using the basic brushes that all mimic real world brushes and all of the tons of variants for each brush. So any kind of brush you choose you'll be able to choose a variant for it and we're gonna talk about all these different options a little later on.
