Now that we've discussed the basics of creating our own Script inside of Painter let's open the hood and really get inside of the Script so we can tweak it. Now as I mentioned in the last part, we're going to be able to change not only the Brush, but also the Variant, because, well, I wasn't too pleased with the way this sketch came out in Crayon, but it might look kind of cool as Chalk, or Pencil, or even Marker. So instead of me drawing it again I can use the Script and I can edit it. Now, this is very beneficial, because it frees you up, and your creativity up, so that you can experiment with different styles on your same artwork. Alright, so here's the artwork we created already. I'm going to go to the Pop-up Arrow and I'm going to choose to open this Script. As you can see, by the way, if you choose to you can Record a Script here, Playback, and create a New Script if you want to. By the way, you can also go to the Script Mover and you can click on your Script and delete it, change the name, and even make a new one, or open one, so you can save it, give it to people, and you could open up their Scripts as you see here that Painter comes with these Scripts built in. So, I'm going to close that, and I'm going to say Done, and what I'm going to do is go to my Hammy here and I'm going to go to Open Script. So let's take a look at what we have in this Window. Well, here's Hammy, and what I can do, if I want to save this actual Script I simply click Open, and here are the steps that Painter recorded as I worked. So I have a Start time, I have a month, the year, date, all that kinds of stuff; my Variance, and it tells me that the Library that I chose was from the Painter Brushes; the Brush is called Crayons; and the Variant is Basic Crayons. I love Crayons. Now, if I want to change this I can go up to this list here and just see what I want to change it to, so let's say that I want to choose something like, hmm, I think we'll go to Felt Pens, how about Ð no. We'll go to Pencil. We'll go to Pencil. And I'm going to choose the 6B Soft Pencil. Now, it doesn't change for you automatically, you have to do this yourself and this is the fun part, the little bit of programming you have to do, although you're not really programming much. Simply double-click where it says Brush, Crayons, and you can type what you see right here. This is the Brush. So it says Pencils, type exactly what you see. Where you see a capital you type a capital. No spaces unless there's a space there. It has to match exactly. So, it's Pencils and I literally have to type Real 6B Soft Pencil. Now I'm not sure if you guys have ever programmed anything before, but you have to be very specific with your syntax. For example, as you see here there are capital letters, there are small letters and there are spaces. So if you see a space here you'd have to put a space, and if you have a capital B you have to put a capital B. Let's go ahead and make this a small B just very quickly and click OK, and let's see what happens when I try to play it on a new document. Oh, no. I've got an error message. It says: The specified Variant, Real 6b Soft Pencils could not be found in the Library. Once again, a syntax error. So, if you do receive this message just very quickly look in the quotations here and then look at the name and see where you went wrong. So I have to actually put a capital B there. Now I should be able to play this back. And there we have it. The Script played back but instead of using the Crayon it did it in Pencil, and I can do this over and over again with different types of Brushes and Variants, and I can really change the entire scope of my artwork. So that is how you can use Scripts inside of Painter.
