Interface / Property Bar
Subtitles of the Movie
Earlier I mentioned something called a Contextual Menu, a menu that changes based on what it is you're trying to interact with. Well the Property Bar acts in a similar fashion, it lives right under our Main Menu and this is your new friend right here. You can move it around and you can position it wherever you're most comfortable. Now all of these options are not available for every single tool and the Property Bar is also not the end all be all when it comes to controls. For example I have the Brush Selected currently and you would think that this is everything I can do with the brush. But I can go to the Window Menu and go to Brush Controls and find a whole lot more. Now let's talk about some of the Options we have for our Brush Tool. We can change how we are working with our line, so you can choose to work with Free Hand Strokes, which allows you to paint or draw naturally or when you want to draw straight lines, you click this guy and this will change your strokes to straight lines. So now I'm drawing straight lines, very quick and easy access to these tools by clicking on the buttons. I can also change the size of my brush very easily with this Slider. I can change the opacity, the grain, my reset, bleed and jitter. Now as I mentioned every tool is not going to provide you with a huge amount of options and the Layer Adjustor is a good example of this. I'll go ahead and click on this now. So all those options aren't there, but you might want to know why the buttons that are here are ghosted out and this is something to be mindful of when you see this. The computer needs to know what you want it to do. So it needs to perform a function isn't available it will ghost it out. So these guys need Layers. So I'll go to my Layers Palette and I'll add a new layer and wahlah, now these guys are ready to go to work, they've punched in their cards and they want to do something. So don't forget if you don't see anything here or its ghosted out give it what it needs and then it will be able to work. Now the Line Tool also have some options here and they will help you to create nice selections and when you see Tolerance it simply says how many pixels have to be of a similar color for the tool to grab more or less of that color. So once again you can move this guy around, place it anywhere in the interface that you're happy and when you see ghosted out areas just give it what it needs to function. The tools all have the ability to give you quick access to things in the Property Bar but if you don't see some things don't worry about that, chances are good the controls for that function are in the Window Menu. So sometimes you have to look up here if you don't find the controls you need to change how you're working with a particular tool.
