Subtitles of the Movie

Sometimes you might find the need to create a Pattern for something that you're going to create for let's say a 3D model or as a backdrop to a painting. Let's say you're doing a portrait of a character that you're painting and you want to have a nice wallpaper in the background. Well what you can do is you can choose to use your Patterns and don't forget you can always find them down here inside of your tool box by simply hovering your mouse and there's a lot of things down here so it could take a while to remember what's what. So we have our papers, we have nozzles. So if you forget just go like this and move your mouse and there you go. So here's our Pattern selector. As you can see we have all kinds of crazy things in there. We have hens and chicks, floor fabrics, jungle vines, and if you want to see them more clearly you can launch the Palette. And now we can get a really nice preview down here as to what we're dealing with. So this is tree branches, tree trunk, sofa tubing, lick ducks. I want to go to the hens and chicks and also show you that the Pattern is in rows and columns. So when you use these sliders here, you're actually increasing the rows and the columns as well as the Offset. Offset simply means how they stagger. So if you look at this icon here you see that this is not exactly on top of the other one, so it's staggered a little bit. Sometimes that can cause some banding which looks like a bunch of stripes. So if that's the effect you want, you know, feel free to incorporate that but you have to tweak this a little bit to kind of hide it. Now this will increase our scale for the Pattern and once again you can see the rows and columns used to create that. Feel free by the way to use these fields to input any values you like yourself. You can also look at these icons here and adjust the Pattern in the horizontal or vertical scale as well. So you can use these guys to help to randomize the Pattern. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to click this guy here. I'm going to have no Offset. I'll increase the size and I'm also going to grab my Marquee Tool and draw out a Marquee. Then I'll grab my Paint Bucket Tool and click one time inside of there and now we have our hens and chicks. Now I don't personally see any hens or chicks in there but that's what it's called. Now I'll go ahead and reduce the size of that Pattern and I'll increase some Offset. Now you might be wondering, why can't I get any Offset on this one? Well it depends on the button you use. Because it's horizontal and because we have some vertical stuff here, some of these Patterns can't be manipulated in that fashion. So if you can't move this, just make sure you're in the center and now you can add some Offset. Now earlier I mentioned the possibility of banding. But because of the scale and the Offset, we see these little dividers here. So once again you have to be careful. Sometimes you might want to see that to give the illusion that this is wallpaper that has been put on the wall in sheets. So what you can do is play around with that Offset and also your scale. And that is how you can use the Patterns to create repeating Patterns for backgrounds or anything else that you want to use them for in Painter.
