Using the Organizer / Tagging and Searching
Subtitles of the Movie
In this lesson we're going to work with tags and searching using the Paint Shop Pro organizer. I've got Paint Shop Pro open, and the organizer is visible, and you can see two folders here where I've got a bunch of pictures in. Tags are a way to organize this so that you can quickly find pictures that you want to look at. There are a couple of different ways to do this. First you can work from the folder tree and identify tags that you want to create, such as children or let's say the names of your kids or by event like a birthday party or anniversary and so forth. You would add tags over here, which then you would drag and drop on your picture. So let's add a tag by clicking on the tag and call it Ben, since that's one of my sons, and add a tag called Jake. Now to apply these tags to the picture we would click and drag the tag over to the photo and now that tag is applied. You can see if I let the mouse hover over this image tags Ben shows up. Now we've also got Jake here so let's add him. Now it's got two tags associated with it. So if we want to search for this picture later, it's got keywords which will allow us to find it. You can also select the image, choose image information, scroll down and see that tags have been added to this picture. You can also add a caption. And when you work in the image information panel, it's important once you're done entering your data to press the apply button, otherwise your changes will be lost. You can also choose to work with your tags from this interface. We just scroll down, select this photo, I'm going to add a tag called Robert. Not only does that add the tag, but when I press accept or apply the tag will be applied to the image. So you can create your tags and then apply them almost at the same time. Alright let's turn off the image information panel. Now from the tags tree can choose to select each tag and those images with the tag associated with it are displayed. That's pretty easy. To identify those pictures you haven't tagged, press no tags. Those then show up in the organizer. Alright to search for pictures, click in the find photos. And now you can find photos that match any or all of this criteria: an image name, caption, date, size, tag, rating and so forth. If you select tag it's pretty easy. Contains, now select your parameters. Contains, does not contain, is, or so forth. And now I'm going to simply add the word Ben and search. So every picture which has the tag Ben is now displayed in my organizer pane down here at the bottom. You can also save searches, and to create one you would simply click add, create a new type of search and then press save. You can save that by adding the name and pressing enter. Now instead of having to enter the data every single time, every time I want to see a picture with Ben in it, I click on Ben and you can see the display change. Tags are a really powerful way to organize your images by whatever type you choose. You can choose to name everybody in the picture, you can add locations, you can add events like holidays and so forth. And then you'll have a whole tree of tags here that you can sort and search through and save to your searches for easily recallable searches later. Now just to recap one more time, you create the tags over here in the folder list, but you can also create them by choosing image information, come over here to the right, adding a tag, adding a caption and then really important step here is to apply those changes.
