Getting Started / Updating Photo XI

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson we're going to update Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. Let's launch the program. Now I just finished installing it, and I have an active connection to the Internet, and so I'm presented with a message center product update, which tells me a free update is available, it gives me a little information about it and asks me to click here for more information or to start to download. If you like, go ahead and click there, but I'm going to X that out. If you want to keep your product at the current version just ignore those. If you come back later and want to update Paint Shop Pro go to Help, check for updates. This again tell us that it's gone out on the Internet to the Corel website and has detected a free update. Just click here for more information which again gives us more information, we can access the release notes, and continue clicking to download and install the free update. So let's just do that. You can choose to install now which is recommended or install the next time you start the application. I'm going to choose the recommended procedure and install now. And we just crashed. Now we're presented with the license agreement again, going to update. I think the crash was associated somehow with closing Paint Shop Pro and launching the update wizard. I don't think it's a problem so we're just going to continue with this. A lot of times things like that happen in computing and if you're really questioning whether you know you should keep going or not you can stop. For those really adventurous people you could maybe uninstall Paint Shop Pro from scratch install it again, see if you get the same error, and then keep going. Going to finish my update. Program should launch again. See the new version, 11.20 and it's going to open up the program and we'll have a fully updated version to use. A lot of times companies make optimization improvements, they release the 11.0 and it's a little buggy sometimes and gets better after a few point releases which are usually free. I encourage you really to update your programs all the time. So here we are, Paint Shop Pro is running, everything looks good. Now I decided to keep the little crash I so that this would stay real. Real stuff like that happens, it happens when you're using your computer at home, it happens to me when I'm doing activities like recording for the Virtual Training Company, and you know we together find a way around them. I'm just going to double check here. We've got an icon to the old version which is a shortcut to the older un-updated version of Paint Shop Pro. I'm just going to trash that, delete the shortcut and delete that one. So again, it seems like we have a few problems. Going to right click this, choose properties and see what's going on. See program file is Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo dot exe. This appears to be the same thing only it's got an icon associated with it and the other one doesn't. Going to try deleting them both, empty my recycle bin and those two shortcuts now I just won't have to deal with. Later, what I would do is if I wanted an icon on my desktop to relaunch the program I would navigate into My Computer, line that icon, create a shortcut and bring it up to my desktop without any problems. But it looks like the program is running just fine and we've updated it. Now if we check for updates we should receive that there are no available updates at this time. OK. Can also check what version you're running by choosing about from the help menu. And there we can see version 11.20. So this was kind of adventurous. I had a few problems, there was a program crash and a couple of weird icons on the desktop. You might experience the same things I hope not but really got through just fine and now I've updated Paint Shop Pro Photo XI to the latest release and I'm ready to rock and roll.
