Welcome to this lesson on Joining and Mitre Effects in Paint Shop Pro Photo when you're dealing with preset shapes, Pen Tool contours and even text, which are all Vector-based. I'm going to select my Rectangle Tool, make sure I'm not in Edit Mode but actually in Drawing Mode. I've got a Stroke of black and a Fill Property of blue. A thick line here of 30 and the standard Join with a Mitre Limit. I'm going to draw a rectangle, which should be blue fill with a black line. You'll notice that it's very pointy on the corners. That is what Join and Mitre do. This standard Join Method is Mitre Join which results in this pointy appearance. We can change the Mitre Limit to down. You may not see an affect on every shape that you create because it depends on the size and the thickness, but here, if I go all the way down to one, I actually can cut off those corners and create a beveled edge. Raising that back up gives me the pointiness again. I can change this to the next setting, which is Round Join which rounds those corners off; very, very simple. If you want to create a rounded-corner rectangle, use this Rounded Join method. You'll notice that the Mitre Limit now is inaccessible. I can't actually change that here. Last option is Bevel Join, which just cuts them straight off again. No options or setting. It just gives you a nice beveled joint. If I disable the Line or the Stroke Property, you'll notice that the fill shape is still there. It's just this outer line that is affected by the Join and Mitre Limit. I'm going to apply this, enter values now for the Horizontal and Vertical Radii and then draw another rectangle. I want you to see the different between creating a rounded corner and using these settings to create a whole rounded shape. Now I can alter these downwards; let's say 10 P's which gives me rounded corners that I can get a much greater effect by increasing those settings. Now, there's no way at this point to straighten those corners. Even if I go to the standard Mitre Join with a high Mitre Limit, still going to be rounded. Alright. Let's delete this layer and go to Text to show you that these joints affect text as well. Entering text, we've got an Arial font, a high size with ten pixel-width stroke and I'm just going to choose standard Mitre Join and then a limit of ten. So if I click and enter the text and leave this Text Entry Box open, I'm going to highlight the text so that it's selected and when I make changes it will be reflected on screen. Now I can change my parameters if I like. If I want to go to Round Join you can see the line around the word Join is now a bit rounded. If I go to Bevel Join, it's now beveled. Now, if I turn off the Line, you'll see that the actual text hasn't been changed. It's just the line. That works just like the rectangle. So when I add the line back in, if it's a different color, it's going to give me this sort of appearance. If I choose to, I can actually select the same color into the Foreground and Stroke Property that is in the background in Fill Property and it will look like I have a solid shape with those kind of corners, which is pretty neat. Here's rounded. Now again, some of the effect will depend on the width of your stroke. If you reduce that down to one, it's going to be very, very minor. But if I increase my Stroke Width to 15, it's going to be a little more pronounced. With text you run a risk of overpowering the actual fill if you have, if your line is too large. Here we're getting pretty large so that if the Text Fill and the Stroke are different colors, it's going to overpower that. So it's a balancing act. But you've got a lot of different creative options. And with that I think we can wrap this lesson up.
