Introduction / How to Get the Most From this Course
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, we'll go through an Overview of the course Structure and the Resources that are provided to you within your course Work Files. It's always helpful and more valuable to be aware of what's included within your Work Files so that you can use them as you go through the course. Let's start by taking a moment to clarify the purpose of this course. The purpose is to prepare for the CompTIA Project+ Certification Exam. Since the exam itself covers the basics and the best practices of project management standards from an industry perspective, it also becomes a good introductory course on project management in general but remember that our focus is on exam preparation. As part of this purpose, we'll be covering the following subject areas very thoroughly: the foundation of a project; the initiation phase of a project; the planning phase of a project including the creation of a project management plan; the execution phase where the project management plan is carried out and the work is done; the controlling phase of a project where the work of the project is carefully monitored to determine whether it's staying in line with the plan; and the closing phase of a project so we literally cover the full life cycle of a project. Within your Work Files you'll find a few documents and it's important that you know what these documents are and when to use them. Included, you'll see Instructions on downloading CompTIA's glossary of terms. This is a PDF document that has, in alphabetical order, most of the terms that we'll cover within this course. This document will serve as your official glossary. Because we cover the terms so thoroughly, most will be familiar to you after going through this course. I recommend using the Glossary Sheet from CompTIA to help you put together flash cards. It'll further expose you to their terminology which is helpful in preparing for the exam. You'll also find a handout with Exercises to practice earned value management calculations. Answers to both handouts are included at the end of the handouts. Also included is a condensed Cheat Sheet for formulas, particularly the EVM formulas. You'll need to memorize all of the formulas prior to going through the exam so this will help you in that regard. And you have a basic Mindmap that's included for the five process groups. And the final Work File included is a set of exam Practice Questions. An answer key with the explanations are included at the very end. Also, at the very end of this document you'll find instructions on how to download a small group of sample questions directly from CompTIA's website. The more practice the better so that you can become very familiar and comfortable with the structure of the exam questions. And that covers all the documents within your Work Files and also wraps up this movie. In the next section we'll begin by briefly reviewing the Exam Domains. I hope you enjoy this course and wish you the best of luck during your studies and exam preparation.
