Exam Domains / Project Closure
Subtitles of the Movie
Project Closure is the final Exam Domain left to review of the CompTIA Project+ Certification Exam and this will be our focus for this movie. We'll approach this as we've done the previous Exam Domains by introducing the Exam Objectives relating to this topic. Project Closure has only three Exam Objectives and it makes up 9 percent of the exam questions. While it makes up a small percentage of the exam, it's such an important part of project management. Not only is it an exciting time, well, that is, if the project was seen through to completion, but it's also a critical one. If not done correctly this can come back and haunt you later. I've seen many cases of this going bad. Let's take a look at the Exam Objectives. The first Exam Objective is: Explain the importance and benefits of formal project closure. As you can see, understanding why it's important and why it can come back and haunt you is part of the exam itself, but what we'll cover is not just the why but the how. How should you proceed through closing? Things like getting sign-off from the customer, releasing resources, documenting lessons learned and so forth, are all a part of this. The next Exam Objective is: Identify circumstances in which project of phase closure might occur and identify steps to take when closure occurs. There are various scenarios that may lead to project closure, not just project completion. We'll talk about these instances, such as project cancellation, along with phase closure, stage completion and, of course, project completion. The final Objective is to: Identify the components and purpose of closing documentation. I mentioned the transition plan earlier in this section, so that's part of this as well as lessons learned and the closing report, postmortem analysis and performance appraisals. A lot of work and due diligence leads up to this point, so if the monitoring and controlling aspects of project management were done correctly, closing will offer no surprises. And that covers the Exam Objectives under the Project Closure Exam Domain. We've also covered, at this point, all Exam Domains, closing out this section and movie. In this next section we'll dive into our first Domain, Project Initiating, by reviewing the Project Management Foundation.
