Welcome/Intro / Taking The Exam

Subtitles of the Movie

Okay, so you've looked over the information, you've learned it, you're ready to go, you've chosen your track and now you're ready to take the exam, what exactly do you do to do that? First of all there are two companies who are responsible world-wide for administering the A Plus exam. Ah, those companies are: first of all Prometric, and you can find them at prometric dot com, www dot prometric dot com, and what you're going to do is register with one of these two companies. By the way, Prometric's telephone number: 800-776-4276. You can also call them and schedule your exam. And the other one is Pearson Vue, and a lot of times you'll hear it called just Vue, and that's vue dot com, v-u-e. Their number: 877-551-7587. Now what you're going to do is call one of these two companies or go on the Website. Now what you're going to do is put in your zip code or state or something like that and they will indicate a testing center near you. Most cities have more than one testing center if you're near a large metropolitan area. Ah, there's a lot of these testing centers all over the place. Ah, community colleges sometimes do these things. Ah, certification places, places like ah New Horizons, ah ExecuTrain, any of those type ah computer training places, a lot of times will do testing. But you're going to schedule a test, you're going to pay them your money, and then ah, you're going to go down to that place and, and sit your test. Now, the exam cost is 158 dollars per exam and you're going to have to do two of these. So you're going to have to 158 for your Essentials, and 158 for what other exam you take based on the track you're going after. Now, here's the good news, you don't have to pay 158 dollars per exam. Discount vouchers are available out there that you can buy from people that will lower your price on these exams down to like 92 dollars. Okay. You can also find companies who will sell you test prep questions, ah, all kinds of things, and included in their price are discount vouchers. Some of these make the test basically free, but keep in mind you're going to have to pay 130-140 bucks for the exam prep which is still a good deal, so just do some, ah, some searches out there on the Internet. Just Google the words A Plus Exam Voucher and you will quickly find all kinds the, ah vouchers out there. So just keep in mind you don't have to pay full price for this usually. Now, next up is the question, and I hate to even bring this up because it's probably not going to happen to you, but what if I don't pass the exam? And I want to stress something here. If you read and study this material, you will pass it. This is not one of those tests where they're trying to trip you up. They are simply trying their best to give you the, the opportunity to reflect what you know. So there aren't a lot of trick questions on this exam. They're straightforward, but you will have to know the material to be able to pass it. But occasionally, you may fail the exam. Now here's the first issue. This test is 158 dollars per exam without a voucher, and you have to pay this every time you take the test, so if you fail it then you just spent 158 bucks. Not a big huge deal. Don't put a bunch of pressure on yourself about that, okay? If you fail the test today, you can retake it tomorrow. You can simply call Vue or Prometric, schedule it for tomorrow and take it again. However, if you fail it the second time, you have to wait 30 days to make a third attempt, but, let me stress this, and gosh I hate to put this in here because it'll plant negative things in your brain about this test - if you, what, I always, when I take a test, I always watch for things on the exam that I know that I don't know, okay, so I'm guessing at certain things. Let's say laptops and portables. I'm making a lot of just wild guesses on those questions. I want to make a mental note of that and if I don't pass this exam I'm going to go study a lot harder on laptops and portables. So keep in mind, I can retake. Now, one of the things that will happen to you, you kind of get you know, sharpened up for this exam and you go take it, what happens if you fail it? Don't get discouraged and wait three weeks because you've got a certain level of, of sharpness about you because you've really been in this material. You don't want to lose that. Try to remember the questions. Make notes of the questions that you're guessing on, the general topics that they were. Maybe they were printers, security, whatever. And just go focus on those things and get back in there within just a few days. Okay. Now, if you're a good test taker, you're not going to have any problems with this test. If you're not a good test taker you're going to have to try to deal with the, the pressure that you put on yourself and so forth. Number one. Do not get intimidated, forget about the 158 - I've seen people before who flunk the exam simply because they're thinking, Oh man, if I fail this exam, my wife, my husband, my whoever is going to kill me because I got, I, I cannot blow 158 dollars. I don't have 158 dollars to blow here. If you think that way you're going to put too much pressure on yourself. One hundred fifty-eight dollars is a lot of money but you waste that much money on other things all the time. Forget about the money, pay the man, go take the test. Make sure you know the information, settle down when you get in there. If you do fail it's not the end of the world. You can take this as many times as you need to, to pass it however, after that second time you're going to have to wait 30 days each time, and it kind of gets hard to maintain that edge. Enough about not passing. You're going to pass this test. If you go through this video, and then you may want to look at some other topics, ah some other resources that I'm going to share with you by the end of the video, you will pass this test. This is not a difficult ah exam, okay. I beat on that dead horse long enough. Let's get to some other topics. How about it?
