Let's take a look at two or three sample test questions on ah audio and video. First one up. Ah, an electron gun is part of which type of monitor? Now, would it be an LCD screen? A CRT? Both LCD and CRT, or neither LCD or CRT. Well, you'll have to know how each of these work and if you remember from the ah videos where we talked about um, the video components of a computer it was the ah Cathode Ray Tube, or the CRT that has an electron gun. The LCD doesn't utilize an electron gun. So CRT would be the correct answer and that's one you just have to be familiar with the technology to be able to get it correct on the exam. Next question. If a monitor is configured in standard VGA mode, what is the resolution? And I would strongly recommend that you just memorize the resolutions that I put in the video and you should be okay. Now, understand there are more resolutions than what you saw in the video, but those tend to be the standard ones. So which one is standard VGA here? Ah, 1024 by 768? 1280 by 1024, 900 by 200, or 640 by 480. Well, let's go through these. Ah, 1024 by 768 is XGA. Ah, 1280 by 1024 is SXGA, 900 by 200 is a really bizarre one, ah, I just made that up; 900 by 200 that would be very wide and very short, so ah you don't want that. Ah, the correct answer, of course, VGA, standard VGA mode is 640 by 480 and you ah, don't see that very much any more ah as a general rule. Now, last one. Which one of the following sound files will be the largest when used to store a four minute song. MP3? AAC? WAV or Me. Now. Let's think about these formats. MP3 was actually a Codec that's used to make WAV files or music files smaller, so that's not going to be the answer. AAC, that's the Apple Proprietary ah sound file, ah Codec, that's used in the iTunes iPod world, so that's not going to be the largest. WAV files, it turns out, ah, is the largest, and if you remember from the video it tends to give you a little better sound quality, but it creates some pretty large files. And then Midi, if you remember, is not even a ah, a sound file. It's not even a Codec. It's a set of instructions that tells a Midi device, such as a sound card, ah, what notes to play, how long to play them and so forth, what intensity, or what volume. So, the correct answer there is WAV. Ah, same deal here with sound and video. There are some things that you're just going to have to memorize. There are some things you just need to familiarize yourself with, and um, the brain is an amazing thing. It'll bring them back to you ah, on the exam. Just read over these and make sure that you ah, understand how these things fit together and you'll be absolutely fine on the exam.
