Let's look at um, about three sample test questions when we're talking about ah the Windows operating system. Ah, installing, maintaining, and upgrading. First of all. Which tool allows an administrator to stop a running Windows process or program? Now, ah, I don't know if I've mentioned this in any of the videos, but you have to be an administrator to do things like install a program, make certain changes; and if you're not an administrator, you will either see those things grate out, and then use, or you'll never even see or be given the opportunity to do those things. So there's some security built into the system there, but if you're an administrator, how do I stop a running process or program? First of all is it ah the ah Prog Stop command? Run a system restore? Ah, press Control Alt Delete, or use the Task Manager? And the correct answer is Use the Task Manager. Proc Stop's not a real command. Ah, system restore ah will simply restore the system to a previous ah condition, or create a restore point. Control Alt Delete will bring up the Task Manager, but it won't actually stop running the processor program. So the correct answer is Task Manager. Next question. Which of the following are configured through the Window's Control Panel? And you may well see a question very similar to this, or the question that asks this type of information on the exam. Just be familiar with that Control Panel. We can configure printers from there. Yeah, that's true. We can add or remove programs through the Control Panel; that's a good one. We can adjust video resolution. Yeah, we can do that through the Control Panel, and so the correct answer here, obviously, would be D, all of the above. One more here. Ah, where can Janet get the latest service packs and updates for Windows? Well, she can run update now from a command prompt. Is that good? Ah, no. Go try it, but that won't work. Ah, that's not a good command. She could pay Microsoft to join the update service. I put that in there for ah some of you non-Microsoft folks. Ah, I thought you'd get a kick out of that. And, ha, so anyway we won't get into that whole political thing, but ah, now don't pay Microsoft to join the update service. Updates and service packs come free with the operating system that you bought. You can utilize the Windows update utility. Well, actually that looks pretty good. Let's see what the last one is; or D. all of the above. No way that's right. You're going to use the Windows Update Utility and the Windows Update Service to get it now. Notice is there a Windows Update Utility per se? Ah, yes and no. But this is an example of when we're going to choose the best answer here, and the Windows Update Utility. I might want to disagree or, or debate some of the terminology or nomenclature they use in some of the questions, but again, just understand you're going to choose the best ah possible answer on all these things, so don't let them throw you with those kinds of little tricks, and you will see those on the exam as well. So, again. Always think in terms of the best possible answer and don't make it too complicated. Let me warn you about this. It's a lot of time harder on these tests for people who have had too much experience sometimes because we think too much. Don't think past the question. Okay. For example, Where can Janet get the latest service packs and updates for Windows? I may know a great techy, nerdy Website, okay. Or maybe I've got a buddy who burns these CDs every night and it's a lot easier just to run his CD than it is to go through the download process. Again, I'm thinking too much. Just answer the question, and answer it in the context of the available ah answers that I have, and you should be okay. But be careful with that on the exam and you should be just fine.
