Introduction / Software Requirements/Installation
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, we are going to look at the software requirements for this ColdFusion advanced course and this is a listing of the software that we will be using through out the course. The course is designed to work on Windows XP Pro, that does not mean that you cannot use it on a Mac or other type of operating system. However to mimic my environment you will want to be on an XP Pro operating system. The next release of ColdFusion is going to be more Vista compatible so we will not be testing this for Vista at this point. We will look at some of the ColdFusion software requirements itself at the end of this movie. There are two install options, so in another movie we'll be looking at the different editions for install and the different install screens for ColdFusion specifically. The web server we'll be using is the built in jrun server that comes with ColdFusion. It installs when you install ColdFusion and we walk through that install in that separate movie. I'm using this server so you can get familiar with the built in server that comes with ColdFusion and we won't be using the windows iis server although there's no particular reason why you couldn't that server. Dreamweaver 8 is going to be our development environment and the trial edition of that software work just fine. Access is the database of choice at least for this course so we will walk through in another movie, how to install and set up the database itself. You will want administrative rights to the computer you are using and we'll be using the firefox browser for viewing our web pages through out the course, simply because firefox has a web developer add on tool that I find very helpful when I'm working in development. So let's take a look at the actual ColdFusion software requirements and these are taken directly from the Adobe website as you can see. ColdFusion is in version 7.0.2, so from the initial 7.0 version there have been two upgrades so make sure that you get the upgraded version of ColdFusion when you install. You can see that there are different product editions and I discuss those in another movie but you can also see that in terms of operating systems, Vista is not listed here. So that's why we are not using it for this course. The memory needed by ColdFusion is only 512 megs of RAM and 500 megs of hard disk space. If you're looking for the Mac requirements you can see Linux, Unix, Mac are listed on this same page on the Adobe website. So you can go out and get those but like I said this course is really focused on the systems that up on Windows XP. So that is the software requirements for this course.
