Introducing Dreamweaver / Preview Options

Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, I want to tell you about another way you can preview your pages inside of Dreamweaver and also mention a program you may be interested in trying out for yourself. So first of all, in our previous movies, we talked about setting up the preview in Firefox and Internet Explorer right here, the edit browser list and we showed you that feature and setting up the shortcuts of a primary and secondary browser. What we're going to talk about In this movie, is this little icon here, just to the right of design view called live data view. And if you click on that, we have an untitled page here so nothing magical is going to happen, at this point anyway. But should you have a query or some dynamic data on your page, and you click that button, what it will do is put that data through the ColdFusion processor and actually populate the page with your information. It's a quick and easy way to get an idea of the content that's coming out of ColdFusion and going to be put on your page without actually having to do a full preview in the browser. And that's this icon here. To get out of it, you just click it again. So click to turn it on, click to turn it off quick way to preview queries or variables, that type of thing and actually see them processed through ColdFusion. So that's live data view and you'll also have your preview in browsers over here. Now, the last one I want to point out is an interesting program my son actually found and if I go onto my website under resources and move over to programs, there is one called multiple IE and what this does is allow you to install multiple versions of Internet Explorer on a single computer. Normally you can not do that and most of us now are still having to work with both IE 6 and IE 7. So instead of having to have two separate machines, you can click on this and install this one. I'll show you if I scroll down, you can go all the way back to Internet Explorer 3.0. When I went to install this, I just did version 6, but you can check, as long as it's checked, it will install back to previous versions. So it's kind of a nice program. It's not set up for Vista at this point, but since we're using XP Pro here, I found it to work extremely well. So that's something I wanted to point out at this point for you, just in case you wanted to install multiple versions of IE to preview in the browser as you actually create your applications.
