Course Setup / Installing Dreamweaver

Subtitles of the Movie

In this movie, we'll talk about installation with regards to Dreamweaver and so if you have downloaded the trial version or have not yet installed your regular version of Dreamweaver 8, just follow the instructions within the installer and I think you'll find it pretty straightforward. The screen that tends to confuse people, there is one and it is the screen that asks whether you want to coder or designer. And it's a little pop-up window that shows up in the middle, but what I want to do is show you the difference. The coder views shows the Dreamweaver panels on the left-hand side. The designer view shows them on the right-hand side. That is the only distinction between the two. So if you choose one, I would recommend you use designer because that's how I have this set up. The files are on the right-hand side. Now, you won't have this information inside your files panel at this point, so don't worry about that. We'll be doing a movie to do that. We're also going to look at the Dreamweaver setup here and a whole section on Dreamweaver if you are not familiar. If you're familiar with how to set up a site in Dreamweaver, go ahead and set that up. What I did was set it up directly into that same area where we installed our files right in the ColdFusion folder. If you're not familiar, don't worry about it. We have a movie to show you how to do that because you need to do the local files. You also need to do the test server area. So we'll walk through that. But once you've installed Dreamweaver, the basic interface should look exactly as this does except you won't have all these files in your panels on the right-hand side like this. So it's really pretty straightforward. I decided not to walk through the full installation in this movie. The only confusion is that coder versus designer for most people. So choose designer when you're asked for that screen and you should be set. We'll go through setting up your Dreamweaver preferences. What you're looking at here is the default setup for Dreamweaver, so we'll walk through customizing it just a little bit in a later movie.
