Course Setup / Testing the Setup
Subtitles of the Movie
In this movie, we're going to test our ColdFusion MX 7 installation setup. So what you want to do is go to the start menu, go to programs and MX7 version is still listed under Macromedia and within the ColdFusion MX7 section is one called administrator and it's usually the first in the list under ColdFusion MX7 because it begins with an A. And what we're going to do is open up the actual administrator and when we do that, you will be required to use your ColdFusion login password. Now, that password is lowercase cf, if you followed the instructions on my ColdFusion installation movie and so enter lowercase c, lowercase f in the login area. And we're going to click login and that will get you into the ColdFusion administrator area and what we want to do is go down to the security in the first section here in this list of all of the different areas within the administrator and we're going to go down and turn off the administrator password that we just had to enter. We're also going to turn off the RDS password. It will be much easier for development if we don't have both of those that we have to plug in all the time. So click on cf admin password and what we're going to do is uncheck use a password and click submit changes. Now, once you click submit changes, notice that this area turns green. If there was a problem with making that change, this would turn red. So anytime you make changes within the administrator, you always want to look for the green, meaning go. If it's red, then there was some kind of a problem and you'll want to figure that out. So we just turned off the administrator password. Next we'll turn off the RDS password and you can see mine is already unchecked at this point, so go ahead and uncheck yours and click submit changes. Now, I didn't make any changes in this, so you can see what happens. Here's that red notice like I mentioned to you earlier. So I don't have to worry about anything. I didn't make any changes. It's just letting me know I couldn't change the password because I didn't put one in. So I just wanted to show you the red versus the green. So make sure you uncheck this and click submit changes and it's green for you and we're done with the administrator. So now what we're going to do is go in and actually test our setup page and I have it all prepared here. The path to do that is our basic http: slash, slash like you would do for any web page and we're going to plug in local host. You can also plus in 127.0.0.1 in place of local host. They are exactly the same thing. Now, we installed this on the ColdFusion web server so we need to add colon 8500. What that does is tell the browser that this is located at port 8500 within local host. You don't need that if you're using the basic default ports of 80 or 8080. So inside of that, we're going to go to the SUMA area and test setup.cfm. If your installation was correct, you will be seeing this exact page like I have open. So we removed the administrator and RDS passwords and what you're going to want to do is bookmark that administrator page so that is something you'll want to do so you can access it very easily and I've put both of these links down so you can see what they both look like; local host or 127.0.0.1. And if your installation went correctly, this is the page that you should be seeing. Now, we're also going to look for our actual ColdFusion. Where is this located? And you'll see it's in the CFusion MX7 folder down in wwwroot. The reason we needed to put SUMA after the port number is because it's inside the SUMA folder. So local host gets you to this wwwroot folder, provided you put port 8500 it'll go to the ColdFusion wwwroot. And then you do need to add the folder and our SUMA is located inside of here and then inside of that, it's looking for test setup. So that's where we got that path to this page. So provided all of that is working correctly, you should be able to see that page. If it is not, you may want to go back and run through the ColdFusion installation movie one more time just to make sure that you have things set up properly.
