We will be undergoing scheduled maintenance on May 20th, 2013 at 02:00 GMT.
Let's consider what we do when we want to set up a New Project. Now I know this might seem very obvious but in actual fact we do need to consider our final output video size even at the start stage. For example, I'm recording this tutorial for you at a pixel dimension of 1024 by 768, that said, I don't think you'll be watching it at 1024 by 768, it will probably be reduced in size to around 800 by 600 pixels for final DVD output. And that means therefore that any text I want to add a screen capture or indeed as a graphic overlay for example, well this text needs to be set at a quite a large font size so that it's legible down at the pixel dimension output size of 800 by 600. Okay. So that's one consideration to take on board when we are starting a New Project. Really, I think what I'm saying is, make sure you do all the preparation and all the planning prior to just clicking on a button and starting a project. Perhaps a more immediate consideration is the screen recording size that I want to use. Well, remembering I'm creating this tutorial at 1024 by 768, I'll stick to that output size, therefore I need to record the intended software at the same size or larger. Right, so that it doesn't get confusing, I'll set up to record some software called Form Builder. Form Builder is a standalone software program, that as you'll no doubt have guessed, it creates website contact forms. In actual fact, in this tutorial, as we're setting up a New Project, we won't see Form Builder, but we will do in the subsequent tutorials. Right, let's go through the set up of a New Project Process. I'm not going to use the Welcome Screen Method that we saw in the last tutorial, instead I'll show you another method. Here's Camtasia 7 open and running but at present it's not set up with any particular project created, it's simply empty. So here's what we do, run up to File and then down to the first option there, New Project. Notice the shortcut Control plus N and no surprises, that makes a new empty project and it's exactly the same as we've just had. I've not saved it, it's still called Untitled but here's something to be aware of. You need assets incorporated into the project before you can save it and name it, notice that if I try and click on the Save Button, well it doesn't work, it's grayed out. So just as an example, I'll bring in a previous screen recording as an asset, now don't worry that I'm going to fast to show you this at the moment, I'll go through the procedure later, but I'll use this screen recording with the .CAMREC extension and I'll hit Open. And because my project now has an asset, notice it here, then I can save it, the Save Button now becomes available. Now I'm not going to click it, I don't want to save it at the moment, the reason for this is, I want you to notice what occurs when I create a New Project. Now this is going to be another New Project, so I'll go up to File and then down to New Project. Well in actual fact, just before I do, do notice there's no Close Project Option and that's because the process of creating a New Project automatically closes the existing open project. Now don't be fooled into clicking Exit at the bottom there, that simply shuts down Camtasia completely. So let's select New Project now and of course, we're now prompted to save any changes to this untitled project, the existing one that we've got open already. We've only got the three options, Yes, No and Cancel. Well I don't really want to save it, so I'll click on No. Okay and so now I have another empty project once more and this time, again, the Save Button is disabled and that's because I've not got any assets imported. Therefore I'll quickly go through the process again, I'll import the CAMREC file once more. Okay. And so now I've got my project created, finally here's another way to create a New Project. Now rather than going to the File Option and then dropping to New Project, just hit this first button icon down here, just underneath and this is the New Project Button and because I get the prompt that we saw previously, to Save the Existing Project, the one that we've got open at the moment. Well I don't want to save it so I'll click on No once more. Okay. And this is our starting point for our project, now we have got a New Project running admittedly, we need to populate it with assets though and in the next tutorial, we'll look at screen capturing relevant footage from Form Builder and how to bring it into Camtasia. Okay. And so that's a quick run through the different methods of creating a New Project within Camtasia. And we picked up the pointer of the ramifications of creating a New Project, how it automatically closes down the original project that we might have got open at that particular point. Okay. Right, we'll finish here and we'll move forward.
