Well we've reached a New Section and we're going to get down to starting a New Project, now that we've got the fundamentals explored. That's not to say that further fundamentals will get overlooked, we will look at other necessary functions as we move along throughout this section. Well there is more than one way to get started with a project but perhaps the simplest way is to use the Welcome Screen that displays when you launch Camtasia 7. You might be thinking, what Welcome Screen? I can't see anything at the moment, well that's because I've got particular option unchecked in my Options Dialog Box. You'll remember this from the previous tutorial. So if you don't see the Welcome Screen, what you need to do is come up to Tools and roll down to Options and in this first tab, the Program Tab, the second checkbox down, remember states, Show Welcome Window on Start Up. Well because that's unchecked, we're not ever going to see it, so I will check in it now and then run down here and OK and so from this point onwards, when I start up Camtasia again, then I will always see that Welcome Screen. So that's what I'll do, I'll close this instance of Camtasia down and start it up again. Okay. I'll just flip over, there we go. Now in the center of my User Interface, I see this Welcome Screen and so that we don't get distracted with the main Camtasia User Interface, I'll fade that away, meaning that we just have our Welcome Screen remaining here on view. Right, let's have a look at what we can do with this Welcome Screen, perhaps the first thing you'll notice is the 4 buttons here, ready for you to click on to open up the Named Functions there. For example, the first one there says, Record the Screen and if we did click on that, then that would set up an instance of Camtasia Recorder, meaning that we could record whatever is on our screen at that particular point. If we simply wanted to record our voice for narration, then the second button there, Record Voice Narration is the one to go for. Moving down to the bottom left button here of these four, we see this Record PowerPoint Button and as we saw in the last tutorial of the last section, Camtasia allows you to record your PowerPoint presentations so that you can use them and edit them further directly from within Camtasia Studio. Now so far, those 3 buttons allow us to begin a project by recording something from that particular point, however you might very well have media assets that you want to use already. Perhaps you've already got some screen recordings or some audio recordings or some PowerPoint recordings already done and you want to bring them in to Camtasia for editing. Well of course that fourth button there, Import Media allows you to do that. Over on the right, you'll see a list of recent projects that you have recently had open, as you can see, I've got a list of 3 there, of the last three tutorials that you've watched and of course that's because those were the last tutorials I've created within Camtasia for you. So those are displayed there in this Recent Projects List. If you want to see other recent projects that aren't listed here, then you would click on the More Button there just at the bottom there. And TechSmith, ever helpful, if you want to go to their Learning Center, so that you can learn about all the different functions within Camtasia Studio, then clicking on there would open up the website for you. And really that's all there is to this Welcome Screen, apart from this option down in the bottom left corner, Show this Dialog at Start Up. Now of course, it's checked because we've set it as an option to always display in our Options Dialog a few moments ago, but maybe from this point onwards, you want to uncheck it, so that you don't see it when you open up Camtasia. Of course, you choose whether you want to uncheck it or check it again, or like me, I'm going to uncheck it one final time. I don't really want to see this Welcome Screen each time I start up. Okay. But of course, you leave it there should you want it and then of course, all you'd need to do, now that we've got our project idea underway, we would simply click on Close and as I say, that's about it really. In the next tutorial, we're going to look at actually creating a new project while certainly what considerations we have to bear in mind prior to starting. Okay, see you in a moment.
