Now we are going to demonstrate how quick and easy it is to telnet from one device to another. Right now I've got two different routers open with two different console sessions, router-a and router-b. And we are in privileged exec mode on router-a. So from router-a, let's take a look at the interfaces that we have to work with. So if I go and show IP interfaces brief, I see that I have Ethernet-0, serial-0 and serial-1. You'll notice the IP address on the serial-1 is 10.140.1.2. Now let's take a look at router-b, I'm going to do the same thing over here, show IP interfaces brief. And you notice I have a serial-0 over here which is 10.140.1.1. That's the other side of that wire. If you were to physically see the way these routers are connected, all that is is a wire running from one port to another. From one interface to another. And all I am going to do is use that connection. So 10.140.1.1 is directly connected back to 10.140.1.2, on the other side. And that's all I need, is a physical connection and to know what the IP address is. Then to telnet to it, and say I want to administer router-a and say I didn't have a console session open with router-a. But I want to administer router-a or I want to administer any device that's in my network that I know I have an IP address connection to, then I can just type in the IP address of the device that I want to administer. So in this case, I am going to type 10.140.1.2, which should be the other side of that connection, and we press enter and let's see what happens. It says - "OK, we are going to open it up for you." Do you know the password, and I say - "yeah I know the password, that's the password that I setup." So now I am in router-a. Now you notice I am still in router-b. Physically that's where I am, is in router-b, but I am telneted over to router-a. So now if were to want to take a look at router-a, show any information on it, I can be in it just as much as anything else. I can enable it, I can get into the privileged exec mode on router-a, I can do show IP interfaces brief over here on router-a, even though I am physically still on router-b. Now how do I get back to router-b. Well all I have to do is hold down the control and the shift key, I usually do this from my left side of the keyboard. Hold it down with my thumb and forefinger. So hold down control and shift, and then press the 6 hold up down all three of the them at the same time just for a second and then press 'x'. When I do you know this will pop right back in to my router-b connection. So now I am back. Now if I wanted to go back to that telneted session since I didn't close it, I can hold down the control and the shift and then press the 6 and then 'x' again, and I will resume back to 10.140.1.2, so it's resuming my connection. And now I am back in router-a. So it's simple and quick to telnet back and forth to different devices, to be able to administer my network remotely. And as we get to know telnet even better, we will understand that telnet can be a tremendous tool in regards to trouble shooting as well. So it's important to know how to run the network, it's important to know how to troubleshoot devices in the network, and this is important both in real life as well as for the test. And I have tried to in this training stick as close as possible to the objectives of the 640-607 test, without giving away anything confidential. Just the objectives that you could find on the web page. And I hope that I have as much as possible stuck to those objectives. But we said at the beginning there were 2 purposes, that one purpose was for real life and the other was you would pass the test, and so the last chapter, the next chapter, we are going to discuss taking and passing the 640-607 test. That's next. he other was you would pass the test, and so the last chapter, the next chapter, we are going to discuss taking and passing the 640-607 test. That's next.
