Autodesk Revit Structure 2010 Tutorials

Introduction / Common Tasks

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson you will learn how to perform some of the common Revit Structure tasks that are included in the course. After you are familiar with these tasks it will be easier to work in Revit Structure and focus on the lessons. Click the Menu Browser and select Open, Project. Then in the Open dialog browse to Training Files, Common and open the file RST Common Tasks. From the area to the left of the Drawing Area called the Project Browser, under Views, Structural Plans, double-click 02-Floor. Let's learn about how to resize elements using the Drag Controls. Right-click in the Drawing Area and select Zoom in Region and zoom in on the upper right corner of the structural floor plan then click on the wall shown to select it. The small blue dots that display at both ends of the wall are its Drag Controls. Click and drag the bottom drag control down vertically to lengthen the wall. To deselect the wall click in the Drawing Area. Next, you'll learn about how to move an element. Zoom out a little bit so you can see the Grid Line labels, then zoom in so you can see the beam on Grid Line E. Then select the beam and when the Modify Structural Framing tab displays from the Modify Panel click Move. Then for the Move Start Point click the beam then click Grid Line F. Another way to move an element is to select it and drag it to a new location. Drag the beam to Grid Line F1. To quickly undo the previous action press the two-key combination Ctrl-Z for Undo. Next let's learn how to end a command. On the Home Tab from the Model Panel click Model Line. Some commands such as the Lines Command stay active or current until you choose another command or end the current command. For example, to draw a line you would click in the Drawing Area to start the line and then you would click again to end the line. But notice that the Lines Command is still active and you could continue to draw lines. To end the Lines Command you could either start another command from any of the Tabs or you can click Modify, or you can press the Escape key on your keyboard twice. Now, to close the file without saving any changes click the Menu Browser and then click Close. In the Save File dialog click No. And that concludes this lesson.
