In this lesson you will create a Symbol Legend Annotation for the Project. Legends provide a way to display a list of the various structural components and annotations used in a project. The two most common types of construction document Legends are Annotation Legends and Building Component Legends. Annotation Legends consist of components such as Section Markers that are paired with text that identify them. On construction documents, Annotation Legends are often referred to as Symbol Legends. Building component Legends list and identify components such as Weld Symbols and Rebar Tags. On construction documents Component Legends are often called Schedules, for example, Beam Schedule, Concrete Schedule and so on. Click the Menu Browser and select Open, and open the file RST DOC AD 03-Symbols Legend. Let's create a Legend View. Click the View Tab and from the Create Panel click the Legends drop-down and select Legend. In the New Legend View dialog type Symbol Legend and click OK. When you do a new branch is created in the Project Browser called Legends under which is the new Symbol Legend. Let's add Symbols to the Legend. Then go back to Change Element Type and select Span Direction Fixed One-Way Slab half an inch and place that in the View. Then from the Type Selector select Rebar Tag Type and place that in the View. Then select Weld Symbol Both and place that in the View. Then select Weld Symbol - Spacer and place that in the View and then select Weld Symbol with Preparation - Melt thru and place that in the View. Then click Modify and let's create a New Text Type. On the Annotate Tab from the Text Panel click Text, then change the Element Type to a quarter-inch Arial Text and then click the Element Properties drop-down and select Type Properties and in the Type Properties dialog click Duplicate and in the Name dialog type Eighth-inch Text and click OK. Then change the Text Size to eighth-inch and click OK. Now let's add Text to the Legend. Click to the right of the first symbol to specify the Text Start point and type Level Marker Level name Elevation. Then click next to the next Symbol and type Span Direction Fixed: half inch, then click outside the Text bar and then click next to the next Symbol and type Rebar Tag Tag Number and for the next Symbol type Weld Symbol and for the next one type Weld Symbol - Spacer, and for the last Symbol type Weld Symbol - Melt thru. Then click Modify and let's place the Symbol Legend on a Sheet. In the Project Browser under Sheets double-click S1.0 - Plans and Elevations. Then in the Project Browser click Symbol Legend and drag it to the lower right corner of the sheet and click to place it. Then clear the selection and close the file without saving it as the next lesson will provide its own training file and that concludes this lesson.
