The Basics / Add a Level / Windows and Floor

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson, we will learn how to add another level, upper windows and a floor. In the project browser, find elevations and double click the west elevation to open up the view. Right click and zoom in region around the left door. Notice the appearance of the vertically wall structure at close range. Then right click and select zoom to fit. Then pick the level tool from the basics tab. Then place your cursor over the level tool marker at the left side of the building. Revit Building will snap to it. As you move your cursor up, it will display a readout of an offset dimension. Pick to start your new level eight feet above level two. Then pull the cursor to the right of the building and left click to place the level. The new level three will appear and note that we also have level three under floor plans and seating plans now appears. Click the modify button to exit the command. Now select the dash line for level two. Then select it's left end and drag it closer to the building model. Notice that level one will follow it. Then repeat this adjustment for the right ends of the levels and elama lines will appear like that one when components realign. Now make the adjustment for level three's left side as well. Now right click on zoom to fit. Select the modify button to deselect the objects and then make a selection window as before to select the windows in the middle, along with the door. Then select the filter selection icon from the options bar. This is the filter selection icon. Now uncheck the doors and click OK. The windows will still be highlighted. Now click copy from the tool bar and Revit Building will need a start point and an end point to define the relative distance and direction for the copy. Select the left end of level one. Then pull the cursor straight up until it snaps to level two and left click. The new windows will appear above the originals. So, so far we have created new levels, level three, and then we have added upper windows. Now let's take a look at creating a floor. Double click level two under floor plans in the project browser to open that view. Then pick the floor button from the basics tab. The walls in the view window will gray out. The design bar will go into sketch mode with pick walls active. The status bar will read pick walls to create lines. Make sure the offset value is set at zero feet and that the extending to wall to core check box is checked. Hold your cursor over the interior surface of the left wall. The wall will highlight and the wall properties will appear in a tool tip and in the status bar. Pick the wall and the magenta line will appear on on it's interior surface. You can use these control arrows if you're having trouble with adjusting the line to make it up here in the interior side if necessary. Pick the remaining three walls to complete the sketch. Then pick the finish sketch button from the sketch tab and then pick yes in the question box so that the floor structure will meet the wall structure and finishes will be trimmed back appropriately in section views. When sketch mode completes, the basics tab will reappear in the design bar. The view screen will not change appearance for now. In the next lesson, we will see the flooring section. In this lesson, we have created a new level in elevation, we have added upper windows and we have created a new floor object. Save the project as this concludes the lesson.
