The Basics / Add Doors and Windows and Edit a Model

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson, we will learn how to add doors and windows, as well as how to edit the model. Pick tour on the basics tab of the design bar. Then from the type selector, select single flush 36x84. Locate an exit door that swings out about four feet from the corner. Holding the cursor to the interior or exterior of the wall will set the swing. Set the second door four feet from the bottom wall. You can also adjust the door swing with the control arrow sets if necessary while in the door mode. Like so. Now to load a double door, click the load button on the options bar. Then open the doors folder in the interior library. Then select the double glass one .rfa. Now pick open. Now locate the double door midway between the other two doors. Revit Building will snap to their center points to assist you. Then hit the escape key or pick modify to exit the door tool. Then again from the basics tab of the design bar, select the window tool. Then drop the type selector down and choose fixed 24x48. Now place this window in the west wall eight feet from the centers of the lower and middle doors. If you hold your cursor to the exterior side, the dimensions will appear on the right side and the glazing will be on the exterior side. Now after you place that window, add the second window midway between the center and upper doors. Then place your cursor to the outside and place the second window with it's glazing to the outside. Now change the window selection to fixed 36" by 72" and then place five windows in the lower wall. Again, do not be concerned about the locations. But just make sure the glazing is on the exterior side, which means the dimensions will be on the inside. There's one, there's the second one and here's the third one. We'll wait for that to come in. And here's the fourth one and then a fifth one. Then select the modify button to exit the window tool. Now we will edit the model. Pick the dimension tool button from the basics tab of the design bar. And then move your cursor to the left-hand wall and select it when it's center line highlights. And then move to the first window and select it when it's center highlights and keep moving to each window and click as it's center point highlights. Revit Building will assist you by highlighting the centers. Then pick the right-hand wall last and then pull the cursor above the wall, come inside the building and left click to place the dimensions. Now the eq symbol will appear. Click that eq symbol and all the windows will adjust. This locks the dimensioned objects so that all the windows are equidistant from each other. Architectural drafting practice locates dimensions on the exterior of building walls for the purposes of clarity and busy plan pages. But in our simple model, we want to keep the pics easy for right now and it would be a simple matter to relocate these things later on in the construction document phase of a real project. Now pick modify to exit the dimension tool. Now place your cursor below and to the left of the left-hand window. Then click and drag to the right to select all the windows. Do not include the entire wall. And then release the mouse and the windows will be selected. They are highlighted in red. Now while the windows are selected, pick the mirror button from the tool bar up here. Then pick the center of the center door in the left hall. Notice the reference line appearing to assist you and as you click, these windows will be mirrored and copied to the top wall. And there are the mirrored windows. Go ahead and save this file as this concludes this lesson.
