The Basics / Revit Graphical User Interface and Simple Layout

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson, we'll take a look at Revit Building's basic tools and display settings. The very first time you start the program, Revit Building opens up an empty project called Project 1, which is shown here. The view window, or the drawing area, opens up to a level one plan view. The level one plan view is over here. The bold type shows which one is the current view. Four elevations are visible in the drawing area. There are a number of menus up here under the menu bar and in each one of these tabs in the design bar. And they control modeling and other tools. From the basics bar, on the design bar, wall, wall. Then pick the down arrow at the right of the type selector. This is the type selector. To expand this list. And then scroll up the list and find basic wall exterior break and seam on metal stud. Then click inside the chain option. If it's not checked, make sure that it is checked. And it will allow you to draw continually until you stop the command. Then place your cursor in the view window, left of center and above the middle, but inside the elevation markers. If you click to pause, a totem will appear down here at the status bar. Click to enter wall start point. Now left click to start the wall. And pull the cursor to the right until you see 40 feet and left click. Now pull the cursor down until you see 40 feet, make a left click and pull to the left and alignment paths will help you be at 40 feet over here. Left click. And then pull back up and Revit Building will snap to the first point. Left click again to finish. To exit the wall tool, you can hit escape twice or you can pick to modify from the basics tab. This puts the cursor back into select mode. Now, put the cursor in the view window and right click and select view properties. Then click the edit button next to visibility and select the annotation categories tab. And in here scroll down and select elevations to clear that check box. Now click OK to exit visibility. And then click OK again to exist view properties. Notice the elevation symbols are turned off. Right click in the view window again and select zoom to fit. And right click again and select zoom in region and make a window to zoom in closer to the corner here. Notice the walls are represented by two lines. Go back to view properties, right click on view properties, and then click in the value field for this detail level. The one that says coarse. And change that to medium. click OK out of element properties and notice now you see a complex structure with hatching. Right click and select zoom to fit and from the menu box, choose file and save. And save this in a convenient area. Name the project Quick Tour. This concludes this lesson.
