Standards and Settings / Import and ReUse CAD Title Blocks pt. 3

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson, we will continue to create Revit Building objects using line work in an imported AutoCAD title block. Choose the modify tool at the top of the family tab on the design bar. Select each of the four lines on the outside in turn. Use the control key to select all of them and then use the type selector drop-down to change them from title block lines to wide lines. Now select the lines tool from the design bar. Then click on the down arrow next to the art tool and then select filled arc from the options. Then use the type selector to change the current line type to wide lines, which will be applied to the filleds. Zoom in around the upper left corner of the title block. Select the two outside lines in turn close to their intersection point. When the radius value reads half an inch, left click to create the filled. Repeat the process for the other three corners of the title block. You can also select the arc and type in half an inch after placing it. When finished, click on the modify button on the design bar and then zoom to fit. Next, type VG to enter the visibility graphics overrides dialog box and select the imported catalog tab. Under imports and families, check border that text to turn that layer on in this view and click OK to close the dialog. Select the title block text to select the import objects. Then from the options bar, click the delete layers button. In the select layers to delete dialog, click on the border layer to mark it for deletion and click OK. Now, select the full explode button to make the text editable. Zoom in region around the lower right corner of the title block. Select the A101 text to select it, A101 text to select it and then click the properties icon on the options bar. In the element properties dialog, select the edit new button to make the value field cells editable. Click cancel twice to exit the dialogs without making any changes. We want to replace text in this title block with Revit Building labels to give editable fields when this title block is loaded into files. Select the label tool from the design bar. Click in an open area of the drawing to start to define a label. When the select parameter dialog box opens up, you will notice that this particular title block design uses two approval fields and a file name field. So we'll have to add parameters to the default list. Click add. In the parameter properties dialog, click select. Click yes to choose a parameter file. In the edit shared parameters dialog, click the create button to make a shaped parameter file to hold the new parameters we are about to define. This file will be a .txt file that you may very well edit later. So save it in a convenient network location and give it the name shared parameters. And choose the save button. In the shared parameter dialog, choose the new button under groups to define a parameter group inside the new file. In the new parameter group dialog, type in the name, title block labels and click OK. This name now appears under parameter group. Now, in the parameter section. Click the new button and the parameter properties dialog, give the first new parameter the name approved by number two. Leave it as a text field and click OK. We will come back to this dialog box to create more parameters later. click OK and click OK to close the shared parameter dialog box as well. In the parameter properties dialog, approved by two will appear in the name field, but it will not be available to indicate that it is not editable in this dialog. click OK. In the select parameter dialog box, approved by two is now in the list of parameters available for our new label. We are now ready to add labels to the family. Choose cancel to exit this dialog. Hit the escape key to terminate the label tool for now. This concludes this part of the lesson.
