Standards and Settings / Examine Templates pt. 1
Subtitles of the Movie
In this lesson, we will examine templates. First let's examine the default template the very basics. When Revit Building first opens, it will open to a floor plan view of level one. You can open predefined floor plans for levels one and two, ceiling plans for level one and two and four elevations graphically indicated on level one by elevation markers. There are no legends or schedules or sheet views defined, meaning there are no plus signs here that can be expanded for these items in this template. Click the plus sign next to families. I'm going to stretch the edges of the project browser a little bit so we can see more of these. Click the plus sign to expand structural beam systems and also expand structural columns, structural foundations, scroll down and expand structural framing and walls. Under structural beam systems, expand structural beam system. Under structural columns, expand W wide flange column. Under structural foundations, expand foundation slab and wall foundation. And scroll down and under structural framing, expand W wide flange and scroll down and under walls, expand basic wall and take some time and study the components that are available in this template. And next, place the cursor over the point of the west elevation symbol in the view window and right click when the arrow highlights. And then select go to elevation view. This has the same effect as double clicking the west elevation view from the project browser. Now, if we zoom in closer to the elevation symbols, note that the west elevation shows the two levels in this file at 0 feet and 10 feet. This concludes the examination of the basic template. Now lets examine the residential or imperial template predefined views and sheets. Under file menu, select new project. Then in the new project dialog box, click the browse button. In the choose template dialog box select residential default .rte and click open to return to the new project dialog and click OK to create a new project using this residential template. When the new residential project file opens, study the project browser. There are many more floor plans than in the default file, including floating and framing and electrical plans. Level one and two have been renamed to first floor and second floor. And a basement and a roof level have been added. And if you scroll down, you'll find that there are also schedules predefined. Door schedule, lighting fixture schedule, room finish schedule, window schedule. Click the plus sign next to sheets and you will see that this template includes plans, elevations, detail sheets, sections and a schedule page. Click the plus sign next to the AO basement plan and you will see that a basement floor plan has already been placed on that sheet and if you click on the plus sign next to the A1 first-floor plan, again, a floor plan has been placed on that sheet already. And each of these plus signs indicate that similar plans have been placed on these other plans also, reflective ceiling plan sheet and the roof plan. The sheet has plans inserted inside them. Double click the A1 first-floor plan to open up that sheet in the view. And as you can see, it has already been defined to hold a default Revit Building D-size 22x34 title block with the sheet name and number entered. In the project browser, scroll down and expand families. And then scroll down and expand structural columns, structural framing and walls. And then under structural columns, expand pipe column and under walls, expand basic wall. Study the different content available in this template compared to the default file. From the window menu, select project one, floor-plan level one to open up that view. Note that the project browser now shows the views, sheets and families appropriate to this file. Now from the window menu, select project tool, floor plan first floor. This is the residential template file. Double click on east elevation to open up that view. Now zoom in region to take a look at these elevation markers closer. Notice that in this case, foundation one foot three, first floor zero feet, second floor nine feet and the roof is at 18 feet. This concludes the examination of the residential template.
