Design Modeling / Create Walls
Subtitles of the Movie
In this lesson, we will take a deeper look at how to create walls. Open the file from the previous lesson or continue in the open file Chapter Three, Phase One rvt. Double click on site in the project browser under floor plans to return to that view. Then type VG. In the visibility dialog, select the imported categories tab. Expand the list under the site plan, Chapter Three .dwg category. Verify that the layer road is cleared and the layer BLDG is checked. Then select the model categories tab. Here clear topography. You may have to scroll down to find the topography category. click OK. The visibility dialog will close. The imported building outline is now isolated in the site view. Right click and select view properties. Set the view phase to existing. And click OK. This will control the phase of all elements created in this view. Pick wall on the basics tab of the design bar. The cursor will change to a pencil symbol indicating sketch mode. The status bar at the bottom of the screen will read click to enter wall start point. Change the height value for the walls you're about to create to roof, Miller Hall, using the drop-down list. Make sure that the chain option is checked. Leave the other options to their defaults and trace walls around the building outline clockwise. Zoom in to make the job easier. Clockwise will place the defined exterior face of the walls to the outside. Study the imported line work before you begin. There are section of the building outline where lines do not terminate end to end. This is deliberate. All designers and drafters have at one time inherited incompletely translated files, unfinished models or badly drawn sketches. Revit Building's snap and alignment tools will allow you to draw horizontal wall that terminates perpendicular to the desired line or even if the underlying elements you may be tracing over are not horizontal or do not define complete corners. I will start from the top left corner and go clockwise. When the new walls make a complete outline, pick modify from the basics tab of the design bar. Type VP to open view properties. Select the edit button of the visibility parameter. On the imported categories tab, clear the site plan Chapter Three .dwg category and click OK. This will leave the new walls isolated in this view. Scroll down and select the edit button of the view range category. Set the view depth to unlimited. This will allow you to view foundation walls that you are about to create under the exterior walls you just placed. click OK to close view range and click OK to exit view properties. Select the wall tool again. Change the type to basic wall, foundation, 12-inch concrete. Set the draw option to pick. Set the depth to ten feet. This way the foundation walls will reach the pad you previously defined. Now carefully select the center lines of the exterior walls in turn to place the foundation walls. You can use the tab key with the cursor over the wall to cycle through the selection choices. Interior face, center line and exterior face. A dashed line will appear when the cursor is in the correct position. Place foundation walls all around the building footprint. This concludes this lesson.
