Design Modeling / Split Surface

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson, we will continue from the last lesson and keep working on the external content import. Note the labels of the contour lines of the parking lots. These are in feet. The contour lines in the imported file were created using AutoCAD poly lines with their Z elevations set to the corresponding value. The new topo surface is now visible. In order to make use of the newly created topo surface, which is sitting at a height of 450 feet to 470 feet, we need to adjust the elevation of the two default levels in the project file. Double click on elevations east in the project browser to open that view. The topo surface will occupy most of the view window with the default levels one and two visible at the bottom. Zoom in at the lower right corner of the elevation view so that you can read and adjust the labels for the levels. Select the label text zero feet, zero inches for level one. The level line will highlight red and a box appear around the label. Select the text again and the box will become an editing field. Now, change the level of elevation by typing 466 and hitting enter. The level will disappear from the screen. Adjust the elevation for level two to 476 feet. It, too, will disappear from the screen when you hit enter. Now type ZF for zoom to fit. Note that the level lines are now above the contours of the topo surface in this view. Double click on site in the project browser. Contour lines are now visible in the site view. Hold the cursor over a contour line and the topo and status bar will identify the object as topography surface. Type VG to open the visibility dialog. In the visibility and graphics overrides for the floor plan, site view, click on the imported categories tab to switch to that tab. Now on the imported categories tab of the visibility dialog, under site plan Chapter Three .dwg, uncheck all layer names except BLDG. So uncheck zero, uncheck ANO revs, curb, parking, road, site, text and walkway and leave only the BLDG layer checked for visibility. click OK to close this dialog. Save the file, as we are going to stop at this point. This concludes this lesson on importing external content.
