In this lesson, we will learn how to establish project settings. Place your cursor anywhere in the view window, but not over an elevation or elevation view control arrow, and right click. Then select new properties to open the element properties dialog for the system family floor plan for level one. Study the properties of this view, noting the default view scale, eighth of an inch or one through 96 and also phase information. Phase filter, show all, phase construction. click OK to exit the dialog. Then double click on site in the project browser to open that view. This view also shows the four elevations. Type VG to open the visibility graphics dialog box for the current view. Revit Building contains a number of two-letter keystroke shortcuts for common commands and the user can create more. Shortcuts appear on drop-down menus as well. We will introduce a number of them in this and future lessons. Views are crucial in Revit Building. Imaginism is an important skill to develop early. The view properties dialog contains overall controls for the current view, plus the visibility graphics dialog, which contains visibility settings for every project type in the building model within the current view. On the annotation categories tab of the visibility dialog, for the site view, uncheck elevations. Select OK to exit this dialog. The elevations will disappear from the screen. Type VP to open the view properties dialog for this view. Note the default view scale, one inch equals 20 feet, or one to 240, and phase settings. Phase filter, show all, phase, new construction. Select cancel to exit this dialog without making any changes. From the menu bar, select settings, project information. For the project issue date, enter a date. For the project status, enter conceptual design. Then enter a client name. Then click edit to fill out the project address and click OK when finished. Enter a project name and a project number. Then click OK to apply the values and close the dialog. This information will appear on title blocks for sheets. Select settings, options. In the options dialog, in the general tab, set the save reminder interval to 30 minutes. Revit Building does not have auto save like AutoCAD. On the file locations tab, set the default path for the user files as necessary. Then click OK to exit the dialog. Now from the file menu, select save as. In the save as dialog, choose the options button. In the file save options dialog, set the number of backup files to save to one. The default setting is for three backups identified by a 00x addition to the file name. Revit Building will save up to 50 copies with work set enabled projects. We will learn about work sets in a future lesson. This option is not global Revit Building setting and must be adjusted for each new file. click OK to close the file save options dialog. Back in the save as dialog, give this project the name Chapter Three, Phase One and save it as a project file .rvt in a convenient location. In this lesson, we have learned how to establish project settings. This concludes this lesson.
