In this practice, you will add ceilings and soffit walls. On the Home Tab, Build Panel, click Ceiling and then, on the Modify, Place Ceiling Tab, Ceiling Panel, click Sketch Ceiling and draw sketch lines as shown here in the hallway. When finished click Finish Edit Mode. Then in the Type Selector, select Compound Ceiling, GWB on Metal Stud, and in Properties, set the Height Offset from Level to 10 feet. Next, open the East-West Building Section View, and zoom in on the hallway area, shown here. Then return to the First Floor, Ceiling Plan View and click Wall, and in the Type Selector, select Basic Wall, Soffit, half inch Gypsum Wallboard and Metal Stud. Then, in Properties, set the location line to Finish Face Interior; the Base Offset to 10 feet; and the Top Constraint to Up to Level: Second Floor, with a Top Offset of negative one foot. Then, draw the wall using the Line Tool across the face of the ceiling, as shown here. Next, open the First Floor, Floor Plan View and create a Camera View looking at the new ceiling and soffit, as shown here. To eliminate the line between the wall and the soffit, you can create a section down the hall and use Join Geometry to connect the two elements. Next, to add a Recessed Ceiling in the First Floor, Ceiling Plan View, pan over to the breakfast area and click Ceiling and then click Sketch Ceiling, and create a ceiling similar to the one shown here that has an opening in the center. If you have difficulty selecting the center of the curved wall, type sc and then select the curved wall. This snaps to the center point of the arc. Then click Finish Edit Mode and with the ceiling still selected, in the Type Selector, select Compound Ceiling, Gypsum Wallboard on Metal Stud, and in Properties, set the Height Offset from Level to 10 feet. Next, click Wall, and in the Type Selector, select Basic Wall, Soffit, half inch Gypsum Wallboard and Metal Stud, with the following parameters: Location Line, Finish Face Interior; Base Constraint, First Floor; Base Offset, 10 feet; Top Constraint, First Floor; and, Top Offset, 12 feet. Then, use Pick Lines and select the inside hole of the ceiling, as shown here. Then click Ceiling again, and use Sketch Ceiling to draw a ceiling inside the open area. Use Pick Walls to select the soffit walls. When finished, click Finish Edit Mode, and then in the Type Selector, select Compound Ceiling, Gypsum Wallboard on Metal Stud; and in Properties, set the Height Offset from Level to 12 feet. Next, open the First Floor, Floor Plan View and create a Camera View looking toward the breakfast area, as shown here. You can use Hide in View, Elements to turn off obstructing elements.
