In this lesson we will establish Parametric Relationships between Model Objects. You can use these relationships to control the behavior of the objects when changes are made in the model. In this case we will use Constraints to establish a relationship between Doors and the adjacent Wall. From the Menu Browser select open, then open the file RAC RM 06-Parametric Relationships. When the file opens, open the Entry Level Floor Plan View. We will now align the Interior Wall with the Curtain Wall Mullions. First zoom in to the middle of the longer wing of the building. Then click the Modify tab and from the Edit Panel click Align, then on the Options Bar for Prefer select Wall center lines. We're going to align the center of the Interior Wall between Grid Lines 5 and 6 with the Curtain Wall Mullion to the right of the Interior Wall. Zoom in closer and click the center of the Curtain Wall Mullion to the right of the bottom of the Interior Wall. Then click the center of the Interior Wall. Now the Interior Wall is aligned but if you zoom out a little bit you will see that it intersects the door in the Corridor Wall. Close the Warning message that displays and click Modify then undo the last step by holding the Ctrl key and pressing the key with the letter Z, Ctrl-Z. To resolve the problem we faced with the Door and the Wall we will establish a Parametric Relationship between the doors and the adjacent wall. First let's Dimension the Doors and the Wall. Click the Annotate tab and from the Dimension Panel click Align. Then click the midpoint of the door on the left, then the center of the wall, then the midpoint of the door on the right, and click just below the doors to place the Dimension. Then, click the Lock symbol for both Dimensions. The Lock establishes a Constraint between the doors and the wall. Click Modify then select the Dimension String and click Delete, and in the Warning dialog click OK to maintain the relationships. Now, using the previous method, align the center of the Wall to the Mullion. Notice that the Lock also appears after you use the Align Tool. If desired you can create a Relationship between the Curtain Wall and the Interior Wall. Click Modify. Now, when the objects are moved both doors maintain the relationship you established. Close the file as that concludes this lesson.
