Creating a Site / Planting Components

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson you add Planting Components to the Site Surface. You also create a Schedule to determine Landscape Counts. Click the Menu Browser and select Open. Then open the file RAC CS 06-Planting. Now, let's add Planting Families to the Site. In the Project Browser under Floor Plans double-click Site. Then click the Massing and Site tab and from the Model Site Panel click Site Component. In this step you will place the default tree that is selected. To place a different variety of tree for planting you would choose a different type in the Type Selector on the Element Panel. Click to place the tree to the left of the parking lot then place three trees in the courtyard for the building. Then on the Element Panel in the Type Selector select Honey Locust, 25 feet and place the tree in the island to the left of the building. Now we will load a Planting Family. From the Model Panel click the Load Family button then from the left side of the Load Family dialog click Training Files and open Imperial, Families, RPC Shrub, then place three Shrubs along the interior of the left roadway. Now press Escape and let's create a simple Landscape Schedule. Click the View tab and from the Create Panel click the Schedules drop-down and select Schedule Quantities. In the New Schedule dialog for Category select Planting and for Name type Landscape Schedule and click OK. On the Schedule Properties dialog on the Fields tab select Type and click Add, then select Count and click Add, and on the Sorting and Grouping tab clear Itemize every instance. For Sort by select Type, then click the Formatting tab and for Heading type Plant Name and click OK. In the Schedule double-click the column borders to expand the columns to fit the text. In the Project Browser under 3D Views double-click 3D. Notice how the trees vertically attach to the Toposurface. Note that the plants are displayed as simple geometry until rendered. If any of the tops of the trees appear to be cut off on the View Control Bar click Reveal Hidden Elements, then select the Section Box and use the Control to drag the top of the Section Box up until the trees are displayed correctly. Then on the View Control Bar close Reveal Hidden Elements. Close the file without saving it as that concludes this lesson.
