Creating a Site / Building Pad

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson you create a Building Pad. A Building Pad is a Toposurface hosted element and can only be added to a topographic surface. When you add a Building Pad either the Pad will cut into the Toposurface or the Toposurface will be built up as required by the placement of the Pad object. Click the Menu Browser and select Open, then open the file RAC CS 04-Buiding Pad. Now let's look at how to add a Building Pad to the project. In the Site Plan zoom into the building footprint, then click the Massing and Site tab and from the Model Site Panel click Building Pad. By default, on the Draw Panel the Pick Walls Tool is active. This is because if you have an existing building model you can pick the existing exterior walls to define the Building Pad. Click the Pick Lines Tool, now using the Tab key select all the lines representing the extents of the building. Also select the small square representing the pavilion using the same method, then click Modify from the Selection Panel. Then from the Edit Panel select Split. Then click the right vertical line of the building where it attaches to the pavilion, then select the Trim Tool. Then select the vertical building line above the split and then the top horizontal line of the pavilion. Next, select the vertical building line below the split and then the bottom horizontal line of the pavilion. Then, from the Building Pad Panel select Finish Building Pad. Then open the 3D View. Click anywhere outside the model, or press Escape to deselect the Building Pad. Here you used the Split and Trim Tools to modify the lines to get a Closed Loop Boundary. When drawing in Revit Architecture it is important that boundaries are established as closed loops with no intersecting lines. Close the file without saving it as that concludes this lesson.
