Creating a Site / Topographic Subregion

Subtitles of the Movie

In this lesson you create a Subregion to define the layout of the access roads and parking area. Creating a Subregion does not result in separate surfaces, it defines an area of the surface where you can apply a different set of properties such as Material. Click the Menu Browser and select Open, then open the file RAC CS 03-Subregion. Now, let's pick dwg geometry for the road and parking. Zoom in to the area of the road and parking then click the Massing and Site tab and from the Modify Site Panel select Subregion. Then, when the Create Subregion Boundary tab appears, from the Draw Panel click the Pick Lines Tool, then place your cursor over the inside boundary of the line depicting the roadway and parking areas and press the Tab key on your keyboard until the Status Bar indicates that a chain of walls or lines is highlighted. Then click to select the chain of lines. Using the same method select all of the other magenta lines. Then, draw lines to complete the boundary. To do that, from the Draw Panel, select the Line Tool, then on the Options Bar clear Chain and draw a line to close the boundary where the left roadway intersects the side boundary. Then, using the same method, draw a line across the roadway on the right to close the boundary, then press Escape. Now let's change the material of the Subregion. From the Element Panel click Subregion Properties. In the Instance Properties dialog under Materials and Finishes, or Material, click the Browse button. In the Materials dialog scroll and select Site, Asphalt. Click OK twice. Then, from the Subregion Panel click Finish Subregion, then open the 3D View, then close the file without saving it as that concludes this lesson.
