In this lesson we'll record the Walkthrough by exporting it to an AVI file. When you export the Walkthrough you can select to display the Walkthrough in Wireframe, Hidden Line, Shading, Shading with Edges, or Rendering. This file can then be reviewed and played in a Media Player for presentation purposes. From the Menu Browser select Open and open the file RAC CW 03-Record. Now let's view Rendering settings for the Camera. In the Walkthrough view, Fly Into Building, select the Crop Boundary, then from the Element Panel click the Element Properties drop-down and select Instance Properties. Then in the Instance Properties dialog under Camera for Rendering Settings click Edit. If you need a Rendered Walkthrough you can use the same options as for a Still Rendered Image. In this example we will not change the settings to create a simple shaded Walkthrough. Click OK to close Rendering Settings. The Properties for the Walkthrough can also be used to control the number of frames rendered for the Walkthrough. More frames will make the Walkthrough smoother, but will increase the Render Time. Click the Walkthrough frame's value. You can modify both the number of frames for the Walkthrough and the rate at which they are played. Higher values for the number of frames and frames per second create a smoother Walkthrough but also increase the Rendering Time. A Frame Rate of over 30 per second is not recommended. In the Walkthrough Frames dialog clear Uniform Speed, then for Keyframes 7 and 8, change the Accelerator Value to .5. This will slow down the Camera at this point because the Camera is close to the building and should move more slowly. Click OK and in the Instance Properties dialog for Graphic Display Options click Edit, then for Sun Position click Browse and select Manchester NH 3pm and click OK. Then, under Sun and Shadows select Use Sun Position for Shaded Display and click OK twice. Then, on the View Control Bar select Shadows Off and choose Shadows On. Now, let's export the Walkthrough as an AVI file. From the Main Browser move to Export and select Images and Animations and then select Walkthrough. In the Length and Format dialog for Zoom To, or Percent of Actual Size, enter 50. In this dialog you can control the number of frames being exported as well as the size in pixels. You can specify the exact pixels or a percentage zoom. A smaller number of pixels results in a faster rendering but a lower quality output. Click OK and in the Export Walkthrough dialog specify the file name and location for the Walkthrough and click Save. And, in the Video Compression dialog for Compressor select Cinepac Codec by Radius. Video Compression reduces the file size of the finished AVI. Compressed video can also result in loss of quality. The available Compressor Options are specific to the current computer system. If you are unsure of the option to use, use the Full Frames, or Uncompressed option. It produces files that are larger than compressed files but that do not suffer loss due to compression quality. Click OK and wait for the Export to finish. Because Revit Architecture renders each of the 300 frames to export to the AVI this procedure may take a couple of hours to complete. To play the AVI file you would double-click it from the location that you specified previously. When finished reviewing the AVI close the file as that concludes this lesson.
