Next we'll create a shared parameter. If you wish to include a parameter in a schedule, it must be defined as a shared parameter. Click the Manage Tab and then click Shared Parameters. Then click Create, then browse to the Training Files Folder and for File Name, enter Training Shared Parameter and click Save. Then under Groups, click New. Then type Windows. Then click OK. Then under Parameters, click New. Then type Sill Type and under Type of Parameter, select Family Type and from the list of categories, select Windows, then click OK three times. Next we'll add the parameter to a family. Click Types. Then under Parameters, click Add. Then under Parameter Type, select Shared Parameter and click Select. Then select Sill Type and click OK. Under Group Parameter Under, select Construction, then select Instance and click OK twice. Then select the Concrete Sill Family and for Label, select Sill Type. Next we'll test the correct behavior of the nested families directly in the Window Family. Click Types, then for Sill Type, select Metal Sill. Then click Apply. The Metal Sill replaces the Concrete Sill. Click OK. Now finally we will test the window in the project environment and create a window schedule. Open the I Complex Window Project File. Then switch windows to the Complex Window Family and then click Load into Project. Then load it into the Complex Window Project and overwrite the existing version and its parameter values. Then from the Home Tab, click Window and place the window in the wall. Then click Modify, change the Model Graphics Style to Shading with Edges and the Detail Level to Fine and change the orientation of the view if the sill is not displayed. Select the window you just added and click Element Properties and change the Sill Type. Now click the View Tab and click Schedules, Schedules and Quantities. Then under Category, select Windows and then change the name of the schedule to Windows Schedule with Sills and click OK. Then add these fields; Mark, Width, Height and Sill Type and click OK. Then save and close all project files as that concludes this lesson.
